On Apu
« on: April 26, 2018, 10:06:29 AM »
So AFTER OVER TWO DECADES, a few whiny Indians are upset over how Apu is portrayed on the Simpsons. The Simpsons creators are kind of making fun of it (good for them), but there is suddenly a building outrage, including the actor who voices Apu talking about stepping down.

All I have to say about this is that when I watched Hogan's Heroes as a kid, me (and my parents) would crack up at Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schultz. People need to learn to take a joke.

It is a very bad thing when comedians seek applause instead of laughter.

Sounds like it's time for Snake to actually kill Apu during a robbery.

The hogan's heroes point was that I'm in the same "first generation American" group as the Indian guys complaining, only I'm German and able to laugh at kraut stereotypes.

Must have missed the part about you being of German extraction.   My paternal grandmother was from a German family so I have a little bit German in me.  Mostly I'm English....so maybe that explains why I'm fond of Monty Python and Benny Hill.  Or not ....

If it was South Park they would have killed him as soon as he mentioned being happy to step aside.  >:D

I'm half German and half Irish.   I'm very serious about my humour.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

What's so negative about it?  He has an accent - so what?  He's first generation.  He owns his own store, does alright for himself and his family.

My father's side is from Scotland/Scottish back in the early 1600's, been in "America" pre-American Revolution and fought in it for the US. I even have a little bit of Choctaw and some Cherokee blood in there as well, so, SCREW `EM ALL, IDGAF!

This would be fine if you didn't choose to express yourself through interpretive dance at the most inappropriate moments.

Is there ever an appropriate moment for interpretive dance?

Would it be too much to say that the Left makes non-whiteness, or non-Westerness into something sacred? Or perhaps just something so far above us mere white Westerners, that we're not to question it? Is that why we're not allowed to chuckle at Indian accents? Is that why it was Not OK to question or criticize Barack Obama?

People all over the world make fun of accents.

Why? Because it's funny. I laugh at Chicago accents. I laugh at Georgia accents. I laugh at Boston accents. I laugh at New York accents. Additionally, I laugh at Mexican accents, Japanese accents, Indian accents, as well. (Not an exhaustive list.)

Note, I laugh at these accents when they are part of a joke.

It's funny and has been for the history of the world. I sometimes even find people's accents in person amusing (like my co-worker who says CWAW-fee), but I don't laugh at the person because of it.

But of course, as with everything else on the left, you're not allowed to laugh at humor. It's all "problematic" now.
