I wonder if this is going to lead to a significant drop in birth rate, with the implications for replacement of the population, a decreasing workforce and increasing percentage of elderly in the population. Much like contemporary Japan.

Man, Millennial's really can't get anything right, can they?

But mosly
"Cut to the chase."
The article was a long way of saying ready and semi-legal availability of intense erotic stimulation has led to autoeroticism and reduced motivation to seek outside erotic interests --including marriage --in much of the population.
There are several potential correlaries and consequences of this observation.
One of which is the gradual reduction of cannon fodder for the armies.

You think it's bad here, how about China with the opposite problem, they have millions of men who will never have a mate. Disaffected population that big is dangerous, better start a war.

This was first reported at least a few years ago. Younger people aren't spending as much time going "out" to socialize in public.
Remember, we've spent the past couple of decades confusing and misleading them about what gender they are, what gender they should be pursuing romantically, what sex is for, what marriage is, or its purpose.

Additionally, with the metoo movement, they're going to reach a point where they're scared to death to make a move on a woman.
-
^^^The article made that very point. And is asking a woman for a date sexual harassment.

Don't forget there is no "upside" to them getting married, because they know at some point they could have their reputation ruined, and be destroyed financially, and emotionally. So the risk is not worth any "rewards*".
* - Which include working long hours in jobs you hate to make sure your provide food, clothing, and shelter for a family that once your wife decides "she deserves better"; will take the kids and leave you. In addition, she will also bankrupt you, accuse you of heinous crimes, and deny you access to your children.
It's hard to see any upside to this arrangement.

That article covers a lot of different aspects, which I think is a good thing, since an issue this complex does not have a single reason.
On the particular subject of bad sex, I have to say that is probably a significant factor and I'd say it's one area where being in the "information age" is more of a curse than a blessing. There are a few things in life that you really do learn by doing and sex is definitely one of those things. Add in the new lack of taboo for acts that require a bit more planning and technique along with the difference between porn and reality, and you have a recipe for disaster.
The sad part is, I'm guessing the woman that are experiencing painful sex are with guys that really are trying to make things good, the guys just don't know how to do that. The worst part is that most of this could be solved by the simple expediency of talking about sex with each other, but despite progress in regards to acceptance of kink, masturbation and sex in general, people still can't just talk to each other about what they want and what they don't want to do. =|

Me (to son): You like Red Alert, right?
Son: Yeah...
Me: Do you like Asian girls?
Son: What's this all about!?!

A hunch sneaketh up on me. They're banking on their enemy's soldiers' natural reluctance/hesitation to fire upon a woman.
"TERR-ANCE !"

I suspect a portion of this is also due to the economic climate young men and women find themselves in.

After 36.5 years of marriage (to the same woman) I can attest to the fact that practice improves the act. Add in communication and a real desire to please your partner and things just keep getting better. Maybe not as often but still better =D.

This stuff was a lot easier before there were 57 genders.
Or perhaps, the millenials are rebelling against boomer and Xer promiscuity.

If I recall from other studies, married people have far more sex than single people.
But, as fistful notes, we've been lying to young people about the nature of sex, marriage, and life in general.
We've told them they need to "find themselves" or "pursue their dreams" before "settling down".
We've lied about the importance of a college education and how it is far more important than marriage.
We've lied about the importance of chastity for creating a meaningful lifelong relationship (i.e. Marriage). We've then made the destruction of that relationship easier than firing a public school teacher.
Is it any surprise that the "sexual revolution" is turning out to produce less sex?

I work with a lot of young people, both volunteer work and at my day job. Despite what this article says, there are a lot of young people who still want a spouse, family, a house with a yard. A lot of this depends on where you ask the questions. You go to NYC or LA and ask, and you'll get a lot of career driven young people who are completely focused on career, advancement, and money. A spouse may be an accessory to go with the suit they wear to parties. Kids may be an accessory at the company picnic, or frankly an unnecessary expense with no return on the investment. Go away from the big city and you'll find young people who are less about the career as the goal, and who value family first.
That said, I also overheard a group of college guys while visiting my son. A girl flirted with one of the guys, who blew her off. The other guys razzed him about blowing her off, asking why he doesn't want a girl. His response: "I've got the internet. I can shut it off when I'm done, and there's no drama when I don't call tomorrow."

No generalization is EVER going to be correct in every case.* There are still many young people who have escaped the cultural push that has enveloped most of their cohorts. It's important to remember that, while NY, LA, SF, (inter alia) are not the whole of the country, they have a VERY large portion of the population of the country. And your observation illustrates how much our country is being more and more divided in that the culture of the urban areas has less in common with the more rural and suburban ones.
Statement two is Japan, which, like Europe, gives us a glimpse of where we are headed, as a country.
*This is kind of like "Only Siths deal in absolutes!"

There are a few cohorts of "white folks" that are breeding at much greater than replacement rates.
Want to guess what they have in common?

Additionally, with the metoo movement, they're going to reach a point where they're scared to death to make a move on a woman.
If I wasn't married, this right here is probably what would keep me from pursuing a relationship/sex.

Give it time. I've got enough experience in the justice system to know that things like "Me Too" come and go like the tides. Give it a year and something else will capture the headlines and the age of Me Too and accusations against everyone for past actions will become a footnote in a history book.

That's one of the smaller groups, but most certainly not the whole of them.

Our culture is dissolving and attacking all the human hierarchies that have existed in harmony with our human nature. When a people have hierarchies that are aligned with reality their civilizations flourish.
God
Family
Tribe, ethnicity, race ie the people like you.
Nation
All of the above in their tried and true traditional forms, the ones that have worked for millennia, are under constant attack by our culture and government. All in the suicidal pursuit of so called “progress” towards “equality”.
Our culture and government have redefined all the above in the quest of fundamentally transforming the nation into some perverted utopia.
I’m surprised nobody has referenced the mouse utopia experiments yet.
