Yeah, I know. Newspapers barely exist anymore (as such), and who pays attention to their endorsement. I still think this is indicative of how badly Obama screwed up his term. Or how successful he's been at tearing down our country.

I think it's more a matter of ever reducing circulation figures, a desire to look "relevant" and throw their productive class subscribers a bone now and then.

And perhaps even further motivated by these newspaper editors being privy to internal polling, and "off the record" info from both DNC and GOP operatives that Romney is more of a lock to win it than is publicly known, and there's no upside for them in being wrong.
