Quote
USA Today removed 23 articles from its website on Thursday after an internal audit found a reporter quoted people who either did not exist, were not part of the organizations the reporter tied them to, and faked evidence of interviews and recordings entirely, The New York Times first reported.

Don't get too excited - remember that the iceberg principle applies.

Just like the majority of an iceberg is below the surface and unseen, there are probably a LOT of faked stories for every one that is eventually revealed as a fabrication.

Icebergs....?

Discussion of historian fired from university for not being able to prove his citations about guns not being common in colonial times:

-----------------------
Rigoberta Menchu received the Nobel Peace Prize for her "autobiographical" stories of abuses in Guatemala.  She was criticized because these were represented as being personal experiences, when they were in fact apparently synthesized from stories of others.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward_Churchill

"The primary focus of his work is on the historical treatment of political dissenters and Native Americans by the United States government. His work features controversial views, written in a direct, often confrontational style.[2] While Churchill has claimed Native American ancestry, genealogical research has failed to unearth such ancestry and he is not a member of a tribe.
<snip>
In March 2005, the University of Colorado began investigating allegations that Churchill had engaged in research misconduct.[4] Churchill was fired on July 24, 2007.[5]"

His appeals on the firing were basically ultimately rejected by  the courts.
------------------------------

Elizabeth Warren has come under fire in recent years over her claims of Native American ancestry. Following mockery from President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers, Warren released the results of a DNA test in October that showed the “vast majority” of her ancestry is European but that she had a distant relative who is Native American. She had signed an information sheet representing herself as Native American.

Remember all this the next time you feel your heartstrings are being plucked.

It could be you are just being *expletive deleted*ed.

Note:  The dramatic iceberg picture is a fake.
