I predict a drop in the number of APS members being sent to the Federal pen.  Perhaps they will start to have bacon smuggling.

Yup.  They also mentioned Jews, but it's obvious the real reason is just Muslim intolerance:

The prison system has long made accommodations for Muslims and Jews by providing alternatives to pork and halal and kosher foods. Ross declined to say whether there has been an increase in Muslim or Jewish inmates in recent years and whether that may have factored into the survey responses.
“In general we welcome the change because it’s facilitating the accommodation of Muslim inmates,” said Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the country’s largest Muslim civil rights advocacy group. “We hope it’s not an indication of an increasing number of Muslims in the prison system.”

A Jew is not going to be offended by a Gentile eating pork.

Textured soy product (Soylent brown, Soylent Yellow) has been pretty much standard in state prisons for some time.

First they replaced green bologna, then beef, with turkey, and then replaced textured turkey product with Soylent.

What really sucks is that 5 of our farms raise cattle and swine to feedlot stage and then sell it for funds to buy Soylent.

And yes, a large component of the reason to go to Soylent was to be able to eliminate special Halal and Kosher dietary lines.  Now those special diets are only needed for Ramadan/Passover and come from frozen meals.

On the other hand, I must insist on bacon for those awaiting trial. Innocent until proven not-bacon-worthy.

Per ounce chicken and turkey are cheaper.  But if you can give them 2 slices of sorry-ass bacon or a sliver of ham, that's still cheaper than a serving of chicken.  (at least I think it is)

I haven't heard of the new pig disease.  (binging it now)  Eww, "Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea".
