John McCain is our next best hope?

Apparently that's what Trent Lott thinks. He came out yesterday and endorsed Sen. McCain as the Republican nominee for president in 2008.

Is this the best that we can do?

McCain (R-Media) is the best hope that the Left has.

I cannot fathom why Lott is endorsing him.
I do not smoke pot, wear Wookie suits, live in my mom's basement, collect unemployment checks or eat Cheetoes, therefore I am not a Ron Paul voter.

He was on Hannity yesterday trying to explain it, and it was the most convoluted explanation I ever heard.

No, he is Hilary's next best hope.  If the GOP nominates McCain then all the conservatives are going to stay home on election day.  I know I will.

Let me tell you something. I will *NOT* under ANY circumstances vote for McCain. Not for anything in the world. I dont care who the third parties run, if that sack of crap is on the ballot they are getting my vote.

I'd rather have Hillary as President than McCain, and I'm a "lifelong Republican with Libertarian leanings".

If the Republicans maintain control of the house/senate with her as President it would mean massive gridlock.

The Federal Gov't "paralyzed" sounds pretty good to me.  Let them fight among themselves and leave us alone.

Besides, the way the Republicans have handled things since they've been in the majority, they deserve to be cast upon a bed of affliction.  Worthless, gutless, spineless.

If one of the two parties collapsed, folks would have to turn somewhere else.

So, who would you guys like to see get the nod for the Republicans of the current frontrunners?  If that list is too narrow, then you can expand it.  Here is a list of other possibles.

client32, of the people on that list I think Guiliani would be my pick. I like Dr. Rice, but I think the office of president would strangle her too much. Too much political correctness required. Outside of those two, that list is pretty thin. I would hope before the election cycle gets going full bore that we could come up with someone.

Fine. We'll break up the Republican party first instead of the Democratic (sic) party. It really doesn't matter which we break up first.

We're never going to have real political choices as long as we have one party masquerading as two.

I don't understand mccain. A naval aviator, a war prisoner. I can't imagine how he became so anti freedom (mccain-feingold incumbent retention act) and so leftist.

If he's the best the republicans can do (he's not - Tancredo comes to mind as a good choice but he's got no chance of winning the nomination let alone the presidency) then I'll either stay home on election day (not likely) or vote either libertarian or for just for the hell of it who ever happens to be running on the commie ticket that year (wouldn't that suck - if the electorate was so disenchanted that they voted for the commie just as a lark never imagining it could win).

If you don't mind someone who will be harder on civil liberties than Bush and who is anti-RKBA, by all means vote for Rudy Guiliani.  I'm not sure if the cheating on his then wife will hurt him in today's atmosphere, even though it was a long-term relationship that led to his divorce and he ended up marrying the second woman.

Newt Gingrich would fundamentaly be the very best conservative we could hope for in the Republican Party.  He would challenge the prevarication of the Left and prove it.  He is an historian, not a lawyer.  He has a firm grasp and love of liberty and he knows why!   No one could debate him and expect to come away with their skin.  He would turn Hillary inside out and she'd reveal her shrill, screechy self as I don't think she has much in the way of self control or ability to handle in-your-face debate.

Newt and Condi would be my dream ticket.
