Advice on Sat-Nav/GPS type device.
« on: May 01, 2006, 06:51:37 AM »
So here's the deal. I do not have a sense of direction. I'll admit it, I could get lost in my own garden shed. I've had people say to me: "Oh, I don't have a sense of direction either, but I get by..." then stand staring in disbelief at my displays of navigational ineptitude.

So I'm finally going to cave in and buy an electronic brain to do all the thinking for me. I'll need:

1) Voice guidance for when I'm driving;

2) Headphone socket for when I'm on foot (don't want disembodied voices from my pocket, yelling at passers-by to turn right in 200 yards);

3) Good battery life and an adapter for the car;

4) Ease of use and reliability (don't want it cutting out in the middle of nowhere);

5) Good maps that you can update online.

Reckon that I'll spend some good money on this item too -- don't want any old cheap crap that'll get me lost then die on me. So, any advice on make and model?

Thanks.
