For comparison,  I bought my new truck at the end of Jan to build a camping rig. 2014 F150 FX4, 4 door, 6.5 foot bed, 87,000 miles, and needed a little bit of work (shocks and springs) it's also originally a Canadian truck so there will be rust issues down the road.

$22,500, and that was the best deal for those specs in three states.  I got it from 180 miles away.

If you want a 250 down here, under 50k miles, the price will start with a 3 0r 4. Under 20k will get you a 250 with 190-250k on the clock.

Locally 18-20 year old diesel 3/4 4x4s are asking $30K and up.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

...gas F250 4x4, 4 door, long box, under 50,000 miles for under $20k.

Don't ask for much, do ya?

I found several that locally that meet all conditions except mileage. Different market dynamic here, though, especially when it comes to age v corrosion. The 12 or 15 year old truck that's a used up rust bucket in the salt-dependent Midwest would likely have only minor surface rust on untreated parts here in semi-arid west Texas.

That is nuts. But then again my 2008 F350 Lariat diesel trade in is listed at 15-16K

But then a comparable used one 1-2 years old is going for 69-75k locally (within 200 miles)

We won't even get into new!  :O

I've thought that should an oil price shock occur, one silver lining would be affordable used full size pickups.

That’s how I got my truck in 2008.  Gas was $4.50/gal and everyone and their half brother was dumping pickups and SUVs.  Got 1.5 year old Ram mega cab 1500 with 23k miles for $22k.  Sold it, to a dealer, 6 years and 80k miles later for $18.5k.

Current stupidity made the decision to bulletproof/EGR delete/new heads/ injectors for $8k a no brainer.  06 F350 Dually,  80K.  Not rusty yet,  and I plan on another 10 years.  A diesel with no emissions bullshit?  Practically a collectable right now.

There is no fixing stupid. But, you can line it up in front of a wall and offer it a last smoke.

Six months ago, with rebates and stuff, I could have put myself in a new F150 with the same specs as mine for around $4K over the trade in I could get for mine, except 4x instead of 2x. I was poking around last month, and didn't see any XLTs for under $44K. I haven't even checked since the "microchip shortage" hit.
Doubt it'll be any better. I noticed that Kentucky Exposition Center and Kentucky Speedway's parking lots are full to bursting with Ford trucks. I assume they're waiting on some electronics components.

That may be a good thing. Once the "chips" get here and those trucks start hitting the dealers they will want to get rid of them before the new model year.
