Iran.

Officially a terrorist state after the above statement, IMO.

Not itching for another war, here.  But, we've kicked down the door of A-stan style anarchist rogue terrorism (Al-Qaida).  Iran is a different type of terrorism... it clothes itself in radical Islamist trappings, but it smells more to me of totalitarianism and Statism.

False dichotomy.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

How quick would Tehran be leveled if that were to happen?
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Do you want the "assume we have the balls" response or the "no balls found here" response?

I wouldn't count out Israel in doing something.  And if Iran were to be that stupid, I would assume, that the rest of the world would sit back and watch it happen.  I really think that the Middle Eastern countries you be more than happy to see Iran wiped off the map or at least a regime change.

They would only do that if it looked like war was imminent - if they closed it before then it would seriously annoy the Chinese, it would put the Arab nations even more in the camp of the West and it would put a big hole in their own pocket.  They probably wouldnt be able to close it after the war starts.

Iran is like a class clown...his relevance depends upon the attention paid to him.

  • In short, most intelligence is false.

How about the "Obama's Second Term" response?.....also known as "Choice #2"....

Disagree.  If they wanted to it would require substantial effort and potential loss of life for us to truly re-open it.  You think scud TEL hunts are hard?  Try finding ASCM launchers in 30,000 square miles of defended territory.  Do you people are going to risk tankers if there is a chance of a hit?  And escorting them with aegis ships for defense is going to be tough given the short reaction times at those ranges.

And that is they wanted to do it kineticly...high strength cables suspended from submerged floats could be strung in multiple places and done so quickly...and would be a bitch to remove, especially under fire.  Mot ULCC's are single screwed, and it doesn't take much to take one out.

Even more to the point, Iran has a few kilo class modern diesel electric subs...I wrote an analysis paper on how hard it would be to sanitize the gulf shipping lanes of those guys?  After talking to a bunch of submariners and running all the detection numbers...it's damn hard given the acoustics of the area (and all the submerged crap preventing good MAD detections).

Not to mention that air-deployed sea mines can be dropped from literally any aircraft in existence.
