Hail Night People
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:36:36 AM »
What are you doing wide awake and on the net at this hour?

I'm talking to the after-midnight (Pacific Time) folks.

It's 12:36 AM here in CA, but the APS clock is showing 8:33 PM. What gives?

I'm in between waking up and settling back down to work on draught ten of the Great American Novel.

I'm kinda hoping you settle back down to work. The sooner you finish, the sooner I can read it.   =D
However, if you're determined to slack off, I bid you goodnight.  =)

Far from slacking off, I'm nearly done waiting for the caffeine and nicotine to finish spinning up the motor.

I should be studying for two of the biggest exams of my life (to date) that are scheduled for 12:30p tomorrow, but can't sleep.  =(

It'll either be a constructive use of your insomnia or just might put you to sleep.

I've always been a late night person. I like staying up late. My sisters are late night people too. It runs in my family; both sides. At my family gatherings, everybody stays up late, even the kids as a treat and to help build their late night stamina for the future.

This is a huge contrast to my girlfriend's family. If you've ever seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", that's my family, except they're from Yugoslavia.

I was bartending late nights when we first started going out years ago. Most of the time I would head to bed between 4 AM and 6 AM (or even later) after work. We would visit her family overnight sometimes when I had days off.

Her family would hit the sack at 10:30 PM. Zero late night stamina. I couldn't go to sleep that early as a night worker on my days off. I'd spend hours watching cable and drinking by myself on the couch. I could never coax them out of the house to go out or hit the bar at night.

They thought it was very weird that I stayed up so late. I think they thought I was weird too.

Of course, none of them had ever worked nights.

I work days now, but on weekends or when I'm off, I always stay up past 3 AM. As I type this, my girlfriend is already starting to fall asleep on the couch. I'll stay up late and do laundry and download some Racing Forms for the tracks tomorrow. Bedtime? Not for a while.

Been a week of Hades here; Clients pissing about slowness in the servers they can not quantify, access issues that in the end lay in the lap of their own idiot WAN techs and seeing my fellows dash about like headless chickens looking for Conficker infected machines I find with ease.

So I sit here, supping on Barley Malt and unwinding....listening my own private mix of Juno Reactor/Rammstein and wondering what all of today's closed door meetings mean.

True dat.

I am at this very moment...
Working,
Watching Firefly,
Breaking up a cat fight,
Debating on whether I should pocket the work phone and go grocery shopping,
On the net.

Does this qualify as multitasking?  =)
