Ten year old singer with unbelievable voice
« on: September 15, 2010, 10:33:31 PM »
My wife watches the show "America's Got Talent". I wear headphones while watching a movie on another TV when she does. The other night, though, I heard a really incredible voice singing "Ave Maria," and was really stunned to see it was a ten year-old girl.

I don't usually post this sort of thing, but if you haven't seen this, you just might want to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiM9QVdJyVQ

I would, but I have a strict "no network TV reality shows or talent shows" policy in effect.  I'm sure it's good though.

Didn't we discuss her a couple of weeks ago? Or was that on another forum?

Yes, she is amazing.

Ragnar, we won't think less of you if you bend your rule just this one time.  You really should hear her.

Amazing voice, and powerful to go with it. That's the kind of power I would have expected from an adult.

That's what I thought. It was actually weird to watch her, as it felt as though she was lip-synching to a recording.

Potential spoiler for those who care what happened last night on AGT but haven't seen it yet:

Last night, she performed with Sarah Brightman.  I like Sarah Brightman, but I think Miss Evancho actually sounded better than Brightman did.

she sang Time to Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman last night.  There were about 10 of us watching (long story, we're not that obsessed with it), and we all agreed she showed brightman up

I have a particular fondness for Ave Maria, as it was my wife's choice for the soloist at our wedding mass. The soloist we had, a woman in her forties, didn't sound anything like that.

I wonder if she does rap? If she can sing Italian, she could probably do another foreign language as well. ;)

Stunning!  I hope she doesn't get exploited, and her voice get ruined because of it.  Of course, puberty could change everything; that's how the castrati came about.

Puberty and adulthood can indeed change many things.

^ I think a part of that guy's problems were a lost/failed childhood, an overbearing father that wanted to squeeze him for all he was worth from a young age, and of course being hugely rich and famous from a young age. Not everyone is set up to cope with that.

Not that I'm going to excuse all of his behaviour - he definitely was too crazy to have kids, in my opinion.

Actually, there's no way to know if she has any power behind the voice or not, because she's using a microphone. She has extraordinary range, but power? Impossible to know.

Do opera singers use mikes now? I haven't been to an opera for more than 30 years.

Last Broadway show I got dragged to by SWMBO, I mean that I went to with my wife ( =D ), the cast used tinly little mics that wrapped around their heads, like headphones, and were colored to blend in with their skin tone.

Hey, nothing wrong with using the technology, right?

It also means that the audience doesn't have to look at 300 pound singers with chests the size of oil barrels.
