Ranked Choice Voting
« on: March 21, 2022, 10:21:01 AM »
They're starting to push ranked choice voting around here... The political machine in St. Louis has already set things up so that they'll pretty much be guaranteed winners, and now things are looking like they'll get stuff changed for the state. STL City is using something called approval voting, which does the top two candidates from the primaries into a runoff - and when most of the candidates are machine, well...

Basically, you get a ballot and you can rank your choices. That's going to basically enable some serious creative vote counting...

Couple that with some pretty insane Gerrymandering, and it is looking like maybe a test case for "how to flip a state."

Absolutely not. Outside groups will dump millions into multiple candidates they oppose to split the vote while ensuring their top two boys have no opposition on their side.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

I think we will see that in Alaska this summer. Dems send one candidate while reps send three and the vote gets diluted.

There is no fixing St. Louis until you get rid of people like this.

And sometimes goes on and on and on.

St. Louis has basically fixed it so that you can vote for the Democrat, or you can vote for the Democrat.

WA does a “jungle primary”.  There’s no official parties here, but you can list “Prefers Uniparty” if you wish.  Top 2 in the primary advance to the general.  Which often means 2 Democrats running against each other.  There’s enough Republican voters to get someone who “prefers” that party into the general election for statewide offices.  But they rarely win.

What is probably going to have to happen here is to get a black female to run GOP, against a field of white male dems...

Not so different in IL-ANNOY either.
