Title: Thanksgiving Table Discussions
Post by: Ben on November 23, 2015, 03:46:14 PM
Good news everybody! For those of you who don't already have liberal dinner guests to deal with, the White House encourages you to discuss gun control at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

One place where you have to give the right wing credit is that those administrations have never to my knowledge pushed politics at holiday gatherings. Wasn't it Obamacare last Thanksgiving?

Not last thanksgiving, but, yes, they did this before with Obamacare. I think in 2009. (Edit, Nope. 2013 (http://dailycaller.com/2013/11/25/obama-wants-a-seat-at-your-thanksgiving-dinner/).)

Unfortunately, this is guaranteed not to happen at any family Thanksgivings I will be a part of.

My wife has some crazy liberal relatives, but they also are generally raised to have manners, as well. So even if I were to see them (not in the plans this year), it wouldn't happen.

I should have also been more precise in the OP - it's not just "discuss gun control" i.e., pros and cons, but discuss, "WHY HAVEN'T WE PASSED GUN CONTROL YET ZOMG FOR THE CHILDREN!!!".

My wife as well.  Mine are smart enough and polite enough to avoid discussing politics with me, especially gun issues.

I'm fairly certain Obamacare was 2 years ago, and they had something else last year.

I hope my liberal inlaws try it.

I'm willing to bet we will be discussing Obama, Democrats and Guns at Thanksgiving. I don't think it will be the discussion Obama is hoping for. Last few Thanksgivings target shooting was known to occur in the back yard before dinner. Suppressors and occasionally NFA toys with happy switches included.

Yeah, and five'll getcha ten after all the fuzzyheads put in their input, he'll claim overwhelming support.

And naturally, more than a few 2A supporters will go over the top about "'Murrica's god-given rights, you dumb SOB traitor who hain't even been born in the good ole US of A...."

More ammunition for him and the sycophantic press:  "See, all those rednecked right wingers are whacko.  Why should we even pay atention to them?"

Make that three will get you eight.

"So, you were hinting.  What'd you get?"

"Yeah, Dad.   New gun?"

Sadly, I don't owned any full body PJ's with footies, nor do I sip Chai latte out of a tea cup...

Robert is out of school today.  He has spent most of it reloading .45 ACP  (Tomorrow we'll do some .223) because we plan on going shooting either the Wednesday before or the Friday after T-day.

Hey, Obama !!!

???  Wouldn't anything containing Chai be a tea cup?

I had some fun with those Obamacare talking points at Thanksgiving Dinner 2013.

Our thanksgiving table conversation:
Various weapons talk with my parents, in laws, and a retired green beret CSM and his wife :)

All I wanted to know was if I could have that last link of kielbasa to go with another dab of German potato salad and the sauerkraut and red cabbage.

Our gun control discussion was on the relative merits of Weaver vs Isosceles stances.

Great minds think alike.  An old friend posted this on Facebook today: "Totally forgot to talk about gun control yesterday. *expletive deleted*it! Sorry Josh."

My reply: "It's not too late. I'll start: Do you think the Isosceles or the Weaver stance gives you better handgun control?"

If I like Weaver, does that make me a Fudd?

We can discuss that over dinner for Christmas.

I was voluntold to set up the range and handful of user friendly guns, so as to take my little sisters' inlaws shooting.  Turkey and guns,  and all had a good time.  Was awesome.

Even better was when the other sister left in a huff because we were having fun wrong (going shooting)

Great wrongfun was had by all.  Thanks again Nick.  Robert's still got that *expletive deleted*it-eating smile on his face....

Our family attempts to not talk politics. Some years are more memorable than others. This years memory will last a while. After about 10 min or so of "we have to embrace gun safety, all these shootings should not happen", I headed all of that off by tossing the tactical nuke grenade in the table and stated " all of you are intelligent, most college educated, yet you will not think a premise through. If any one of you actually believe if we restrict or ban most or all firearms, that shootings such as late will not happen, I have to conclude that you all are batshit stupid."

Yes, every family has one. I am "the one" in my family.

There were fireworks for a minute, I didn't care. I was just tired of over the years attempting intelligent conversation, me presenting the facts, them rebutting with left wing verbatim talking points / answers. I'm doing that more often now days. I don't have the time, patience or will to try to explain something that any intelligent person should think out and draw a rational conclusion: I.E. The problem is not firearms.

Did you really say "batshit stupid" at the THANKSGIVING dinner table? :O

I'm also beyond attempting civil discourse with the libtards. I don't care if the subject is gun control, climate change or some BS socialist/social justice. I'll give them one chance to not continue a disruptive/controversial topic when it isn't appropriate then if they insist on it I go full nuke on them.

This is why my Dad called off going to spend the holiday with his one brother and SIL. SIL likes to bait Dad because she knows it pisses him off and she can start a fight. Dad figured since there were so many topics this year for Marge to poke at and because his other brother was not going to be there, it wasn't worth the fight and he just would not go.

So he went to dinner at the house of some people who go to his church and seem to host the most insane collective of people for the holiday. In this house, "gun control" means no shooting till after everyone eats... and dinner was late, so shooting was canceled. Poor Dad.

My thanksgiving table discussion was with my aunt.

No, not the crazy one. The most sane one, who works for an attorney.

Among the observations at the table was that the criminal class has gotten stupider. Quickly enough that her coworker who has been working in the office noted the diminution of intellect from just 5 years ago.

Idiocracy was referenced.

I mentioned to my rather liberal father today in our weekly phone chat that I am somewhat relieved that the mass killers of late have been using firearms.  I told him that once they get smart and start using more efficient, inexpensive and easily available means of slaughter*, the body count is going to increase markedly.  He actually understood and agreed some with that argument.

*No need to detail these more efficient methods for reasons we all understand.

Hell, same goes for F/A... when I tell people the kook would just burn up his ammo and actually kill fewer people than S/A, heads explode.
