So very true.   I love my original 5 GB model.  Made in 2001.  Batter life is down a bit, but it's still rock solid.  I traded about 30 bucks worth of computer parts in a cardboard box for it.

Can't see how the packaging is any worse than the plain white box.

Honestly, I can't see my opinion of the product changing based on what kind of box it came in.
I still say 'Give Detroit to Canada'
