I was joking about getting your ass kicked, but you should be expected to be hassled by youngsters for wearing those hats.

Not my experience.  But then i am not a greasy looking fedora atheist with scraggly facial hair.

And if they do think it odd i will give their opinion all the consideration it is due.

What the heck sort of high schoolers is Iowa producing these days? 

I live between two public high schools, both about a mile away and encounter them all the time.  Yes, the females from one dress like they aspire to hang off a brass pole and the males from the same HS like they want to be their bouncers.  But no smart talk in over ten years.  The other HS is more upscale and dress better, but still no lip.  I don't give them a hard time, either.  I figure they are dressing for their peer group.

I won't count the nearby college due to its heavily technical focus.  That crowd hardly notices their own clothes, let alone others'.
