Not recognized by the US Mint.

Yet another "Franklin Mint" of Liberia (where the #(*& is Liberia, anyway?) trying to cash in on the latest fad.  Remember their silly 9/11 "Twenties"?

No. Liberals like him, they think he's awesome.

Aside from our own anguish over Obama being that popular, there's no reason people wouldn't want to own memorabilia of what THEY feel is a great moment and a great individual. That they are wrong is a completely different matter.

I just hope he has success (not his definition of success, mine) to match that popularity.

This has happened with every President that I remember. It's no different now than it was for Reagan.

I can't remember -- did they sell them before the President took office? THis doesn't actually bother me too much -- it's just somebody trying to make a quick buck and people can buy or not buy the coins. I'm way more bothered by the whole "let's create an Obama Day official Federal Holiday" stuff.

I just watched a 45 second spot of Montel Williams pushing these items. I've seen viewer guide annotations of whole 30 minute infomercials selling this.

It's just crap from cheapass souvenir companies. Like a keychain, only they charge more. They are not real coins.

This reminds that when Clinton was in office, some folks over at Free Republic would stamp their bills, on the back side of the 20s over the picture of the White House, "A Rapist Lives Here!"

I'm looking forward to seeing what shows up on the bills in the next four years.

Actually, some are real U.S. coins.

One company is just taking the new presidential Washington dollar, as well as the same ol' Kennedy half dollar, and laser painting Obama image on it.

And charging dumb people 20X the price for it.

Hey, if they can get it, more power to 'em...

The folks selling 'em are probably Republicans. The folks buying 'em (and you know there's a market...) are probably Democrats. Works for me.

And laser painting means... illegally defacing the coin, or just plain defacing it as in "the Sistine Chapel doesn't need a second coat" defacing?

Hm, since there are enough fools to vote Obama into office, that means there's a lot of them who'll be parted from his money. Now, the question we should ask ourselves is, how can I get a chunk of this money? =D

The fact that they're selling a ton of these things tells me the economy is not as bad off as the headlines suggest.

That sums it up!  Nothing like making a capitalist buck on the election of a socialist!
