Yup, I agree. When I say "ex-nuke" I mean I didn't make it. I didn't have the background in math to keep me going, plus all the previously mentioned "young and dumb" stuff. Who woulda thunk you needed a solid math background to do nuclear physics?
I had a good science / mechanical head. Just not a math one. I spent the remainder on the USS Buchanan (DDG-14) in A-gang mostly. Hence the HVAC background which I still use to this day. The Buch now rests quietly at about 1600 fathoms.
