I have my series 6 and series 63 securities licenses. so investing is one of the things I do for a living. not straight stocks however. mostly mutual funds or retirement account or annuities and so on. down time of course is the best time to buy. and with funds/stocks you already have.. you only lose money if you sell them off before they recover. and in the past the market has recovered 100 percent of the time. if it stays down for a few years such as after 9-11. that's a good time to put in a little money every month. the funds that I usually stick with average 12 to 15 percent per year. some of them 25 percent for the past 4 years or so. so even with a market that can't make up it's mind there is money to be made.
I used to be so indecisive.... now I'm not so sure.

So much for my bargain hunting.  The market is up this week, not down.

News from the housing market is good, too.  The inventories of unsold homes are shrinking, which could mean that the housing mess is beginning to resolve itself.  I was kinda hoping it'd stay down for another year at least, give me time to put together a bigger down payment before buying.

And did y'all hear about the fiasco at Societe General?  Some crackpot employee cost a French bank $7,000,000,000 by making fake securities transactions.  Some are saying this is what's behind the European markets falling so much this week.

Interesting times, no?

First off, Thompson, mind the language.

Secondly, the market isn't even remotely close to recovering all that it has lost. Bargains are still there, they're just not as sweet as they were at the beginning of the week.

Oh yea, I'm still behind but not as much as a couple days ago.

Speaking of Wall St, I was wandering around NYC yesterday. I just love that place. Walked from Penn Station down to the Javits Center. What a town.  laugh

Not unless you're reading realtor sites.

Lots of sun-faded and crumbling FOR SALE signs out there.

Watch precious metals. The power crisis in SA just got a lot worse, with the rolling blackouts keeping workers out of the mines completely. (They won't chance sending them down if power might fail.) It might not be resolved for a month.

Gold didn't go up much today, a buck.  If it spikes over the next month, I'll sell, take my profit, and buy again after it drops.
