The Great Bourbon Shortage
« on: November 13, 2014, 10:26:01 PM »
That was coming is apparently upon us, and apparently includes rye. I can anecdotally verify the story as I was just shopping for a bottle a few days ago and saw that both the High West and Whistlepig I was looking at were each up at least ten bucks a bottle from several months ago. In fact the Whistlepig may be up more. $75 at Bevmo, and I swore I got it in the high 50's at Costco 4-5 months ago. The High West Double Rye was right at $30 the last time I got it. $40 now.

Good thing I'm a rum drinker.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I'm going to start a rumor with the hipsters that they should be drinking old school Don the Beachcomber/Trader Vic's rum cocktails.

Crown, Scotch, Rum, Beer and Tequila
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Bacon is the candy bar of meats!

Only the dead have seen the end of war!

Yeah, I'm pretty scotch  ;)
Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

I tried Jim Beam and thought I didn't like whiskey. I recently tried Makers 46...

Apparently I only dislike cheap whiskey.

So I guess this is good news that there isn't any more cheap whiskey.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Yup. I'm betting the cheaper blends won't be as affected. Damn hipsters.

Local Costco just got a bunch of High West Double Rye in at $28/bottle. I bought a few for investment.
