why can't i have local candidates worth voting for?
« on: January 31, 2006, 09:53:53 AM »
special election for state senate today.

on the one hand, mark herring. i answered his survey, but he won't answer the vcdl survey. no survey, no vote. that's my policy.

on the other hand, mick staton. he did answer the vcdl survey, and his answers were good... but on virtually every other issue, he's exactly what i don't want in office.

i think i'm going to write in mike irwin again.

the election prospects for 25 year old partially employed libertarians without decent suits or college degrees around here are... dim.

but, let's see my platform...

fix the restaurant carry problem, raise all the speed limits, add more lanes to everything, double teacher salaries, keep abortion safe and legal, keep 'intelligent design' out of schools, and raise taxes whenever necessary to do it.

i'll get elected when people can vote online.

edit: if elected, i would also introduce legislation requiring blue ridge arsenal to refurb the damn range *now.* all politics are local, you know.

Well not all republicans are christian conservatives, I think a moderate republican will get good election results if they make sure people know their ideas and ideals. Christian conseratives are the most vocal republicans as the lefty lefts are the most vocal democrats.

Hmm, so you are in favor of bar fights ending in shoot-outs, teen-age highway deaths, supporting the teachers' unions, killing babies, banning G-d from the public, and destroying the economy through taxation.  Go for it!

state and local taxes are the way to fund state and local issues such as education, and i believe that investing in the teachers results in economic gain for the community.

and no i wouldn't ban god from the public - he's got as much right to walk down the street as anybody else. i wouldn't even ban him from schools, he'd just need a visitor badge.

but this thread isn't about me - it's about, why can't the republicans run someone who isn't a corporate lawyer or pat robertson shill, and why can't the democrats run someone who believes in *anything* strongly enough to say so?

western fairfax/eastern loudoun should be a total cakewalk for a moderate republican.

I've run on that platform a number of times.

You should remember the story of the 18 year old kid in Iowa. He ran for his district's Assembly seat, and won: by going door to door every one of the last couple days of the election cycle...

Yes, it is. The reason you are frustrated is that you mistakenly think you are "libertarian".

A consistant libertarian would work to:

 Abolish all drinking laws.

 Eliminate speed limits.

Spend no more on public roads.

 Eliminate all public education.

Mind his own business on abortion.

See above for what is taught in schools.

 Abolish all taxes.
