Want your own dragstrip?

If anyone has a spare $700K laying around the Dolaca dragstrip is for sale. It's out in the country (read: middle of nowhere) but is a first-class place. Until the mid '90s it was an Air Force secondary runway and a standbye landing strip for the space shuttle.

Dolaca is a quarter-mile strip on about 520 acres. It's solid concrete and about 12,000 feet long. The pit area is about 1300 ft and the shutdown area is about 1.5 miles.

The facilities include a timing house and a concession stand/storage and office building. All lights, an Accutime timing gear system, and a sound system are included, as is an outfitted ambulance. There is a secondary facility that was the base firehouse. The facility could easily be used as an engine shop or garage.

Dolaca is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Lubbock, TX in the middle of cotton country.

The pit area is locoated on the overshoot pad at the south end of the track. The small building on the northern entry road (just west of the taxiway) is the additional building that was the fire station.

The track, looking south across the staging area.

The track, looking north from the pits.

Call me if you want more info. Area code 806. cell number 781.8838.

Not only does that look like a great race track..... it looks like there's plenty of land asides for a 1760 yard shooting range Smiley

That's exactly what I was thinking.

It could also be used for longest drive golf tourneys.IIRC,in Europe it's pretty common to use a runway for them.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a 70 Cougar XR-7.  It would be fun driving it down that track.

Hell, I'd cut it across the middle, sell half and be perfectly content with my own 6000' runway.

Hell yeah, even comes with an outfitted ambulance.  I've never seen an ambulance outfitted for drag racing, but I'd like to give it a few runs.

Did anyone else notice the pairing in the middle picture?

Wish I had that before my last divorce.

Wife #1 and her lawyer gave me the option of selling either my Shovelhead, or this blown, 580 inch S-10, which ran in the high 8's.

I still have the Harley.  Sad

"Welcome to the Dolaca Really Long Piece of Concrete Sports Park, where if you need space, we've got it"

Drag racing, autocross (better believe there's space, with the return roads and all), rallycross (I see dirt), shooting sports, golf driving range, and amateur model rocketry events (need drift range, they parachute back). Also see: Spud chucking, pumpkin tossing, fly-ins (a la Oshkosh), many other things...

I already have a 1,760 yard shooting range.  Just haven't put up the target, yet.  Even more than that, if I change angles a tad.

Well, nuthin' that's NHRA approved, but there are some ten-mile stretches of Hwy 118 across the 02 Flats that are pretty level.

There's a stretch of the South County Road that with some careful grading would make about 3/4 mile of straight and level. Smiley

Plenty of room for Sand Drags, along Terlingua Creek.

Could be worse. It could be in Monahans. Or worse yet, Marfa, fast becoming the new Taos/ Santa Fe.
