Wooo-HOOOOOOO!!!

Now, out to celebrate. If you don't hear from me by Monday, call the paramedics...

Yee and Haw.

Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but if it's a liberal arts degree, or anything not other than, say, engineering, architecture, pre-med or pre-law, it's little more than a ticket to an interview.

I have a BA in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism.
I work in the IT field since 1998.
Between '85 when I graduated and '98, I realized little/no benefit of having that BA degree in Communications.
Since '98, I've seen even less benefit of the Comm degree.
In hindsight, I'd be worlds ahead had I majored in MIS or IT.

YMMV.

Congratulations, Brad.
4 years of school, a benchmark reached, is an ACHIEVEMENT.
Celebrate and be happy -- you've earned it.

You bring back memories.
Mine was "six muns ago, I cun't spel Enginear and now I are one", complete with the plastic pocket protector, the slipstick hanging off my belt and the tape on my glasses.
I celebrated too.  Got married.
Good times.

In a box in the garage somewhere, I still have my collection of ten or so sliderules.  And my very first scientific calculator, a Hewlett-Packard, bought in 1979, and costing more than a quarter's tuition at the UW, which was $ 231 at that time.

Having a college degree will open some doors, and close others.  Just wait until you are told during an interview that you are overqualified for the job, and they can't risk hiring you and then losing you to a better paying job in six months.

I have two degrees in engineering (BS and MS) and have been unemployed since July.  The automotive sector in Michigan is dumping people so fast that there are not enough jobs available to absorb the terminated engineers.  The jobs that are available are listed with almost impossible to meet requirements.  If you don't exactly match the listed requirements, even though you are capable of learning the job quickly, you don't get a chance to interview.  Even if you have prior experience in a similar type of work, if it was not recent experience, you are not considered for the job.

As a new graduate, you are expected to bring no experience to the job, and training by the employer is expected.  That may work in your favor, as compared to an experienced person that has been let go due to cost cutting. Good luck.

Have been let go due to cost cutting. Twice. That's why I went back and finished. Only twenty years late but, hey, I now have a shiny new BS in Management tucked away for a time when it might come in handy.

Check eBay. There are nuts there who collect old HP calculators. Some are bringing waaaaaay more than their sticker price. See The Museum of HP Calculators.

You're right, Brad.  Congratulations, I really wish you well.  Sorry for spreading my hatred and discontent of the higher institutions of learning in the midst of your celebration.

Good on ya-- now get out there and change the world!

Best wishes,
