Are the KoL pathetic wimps?

Yes.  The Stones would never be punked out by pigeons.

No.  The Verizon Amphitheater should clean up its nasty bird problem.

Yes, they are pathetic wimps, but for other reasons.

Another bird doo-doo thread
« on: August 01, 2010, 11:49:09 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/24/kings.of.leon.pigeons/index.html

This is kind of a big story around here.  It seems pop band Kings of Leon did three songs, and then quit, due to pigeons squirting on them.  Everybody seems to be dogging the band for wimping out.  I can't blame them.  It's pathetic that a big-time venue like the Verizon Amphitheater can't keep pigeon crap off the performers.

Or am I wrong?

Your signature is why I hate that genre of music.
"I'm going to write a song that only has five words and people will buy it because they're stupid!"
And then they do.
I've never heard of Kings of Leon, but I'm sure they're a bunch of queerbaits.  I think that the Verizon Amphitheater should get their stuff straight and keep pigeons away, also, though.

If they were smart they'd catch all the pigeons, call them squab and put them on the menu. "Squab on a Stick - $12.50"

The Kings of Leon were scheduled to play the day after Iron Maiden when I saw them at Tinley Park last month. I had the distinct impression that if a bird crapped on Steve Harris during the concert he would have shot it down from the rafters with a bass riff and never missed a beat.

Concert venue price gouging has become so bad that I don't know if I will ever see another big act. If the tickets aren't bad enough you still have the "convenience charges" for tickets, transportation costs, $9.50 beers and $12.50 pizza slices, and you can't even bring your own blankets or chairs to sit on the lawn. I'm surprised there wasn't a pigeon observation fee at Verizon. Was live music always this way?

You mean with pigeons? ;)

In the late 60's and to about 1972, we saw Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Steppenwolf and other major performers for $3.50 to $4.50 a ticket. We'd usually get the mid-priced seats for $4. (I missed seeing the Beatles on their 1964 tour for probably $3 or $4 because I wasn't into them then).

I can't count the number of times I've seen the Stones. In 1984 I saw them on the Steel Wheels tour at the Rosemont Horizon in Illinois. I managed to get 8th row center seats, which IIRC cost about $25.

Can't remember all of the acts I got paid to see by being concert security. :P

Egad! Haven't heard or read the term "queer bait" since junior high in the mid 1060s!

Bear in mind that those $4 and $5 concert seats were probably in the neighborhood of 4-6 times the hourly minimum wage, though still cheap at that.

Gee, I'd love to see your data!

It sure sounds like you did. You go from saying you hate a certain genre of music, to saying you are sure Kings of Leon are a bunch of "queerbaits" even though you don't know who they are or even what kind of music they play.

Only big time rock concert I ever went to was Styx Paradise theater tour in 1980. Tampa Bay FL.
Mot vivid memory I have of the show was when the really stoned guy hurled down the back of the really hot chick wearing the skin tight white outfit. It started a chain reaction puke fest. I think it was 6 or 7 sympathy pukes.
