They ought to install another HD with all that crap in the machine, or give you the CDs to reinstall the machine.
I made damn sure that my laptop package was to include the actual Windows XP Pro disc. I wasn't going to deal with one of those cheesy backup discs they usually send out. Make sure you select the option to include the actual software with the computer when ordering it. Dell charges $10 for the disc.
I love my laptop, but where Dell will really screw you is the service and support. I got the accident protection with on-site support for 3 years, which is about as long as I expect to use this laptop before passing it one to family members that need it, then I will upgrade.
