I'm trying to sort out what type of grease fitting this is. It's on an old machine, built in Sweden. Does not look like a standard grease zerk.
Any help?

Ball type. Still made but not seen very often as they take a dedicated grease gun fitting.

Machinist friends seem to think it's actually button oilier, made for oil and not grease. Same sort of tool applies, though.

Button oilers normally have a spring loaded ball or flap.

That's a grease fitting. What part of what kind of machine is it on?

I've got ball, spring flap, and cup oilers on the other machines. Which is why this one was confusing.
This is on the ram ways for a shaper.
Consensus seems to be that the ways should be oiled with way oil (I use vactra #2), and definitely not greased.

Indeed, the rams should be oiled. But that is definitely a grease fitting. Strange. I wonder if it got replaced along the way somewhere? Or if your ways have grease channels in them?
I have the fitting to pump grease into that, but all my oiler tips would be too large.

Exhaust manifold.
(You'd be amazed how many people just put grease in any zerk they see, even if it's on the muffler.)

If so, nice. Quality piece of kit. And no, the ram ways should NEVER be greased...
My best guess? It was oiled once in the morning at start up, and, depending on use, again after lunch...

Yup Mike, it's a Prema Type 02. In pretty good condition. Looks rigid for its size.
The McMaster links look like what I need. Thanks for scouting that, dogmush. =)

Looks like you found a use for some of those big lathe bits.
You might try a piece of vacuum hose on the nozzle of an oil can to try to get oil to the ways.

Now post a pic of the whole dang machine you deplorable tease.
Don't google search Prema Type 02, you just get a bunch of Bollywood and gibberish, wish a very few actual machine pics.

Indeed. Though I've been making use of them on the 13x40 I stumbled across about a year and a half ago.
I went ahead and made a high pressure oiler based on a grease gun. Loosely following these directions: http://www.metalwebnews.com/howto/oilgun/gunconvert.html
It works very well, and only cost about ten bucks.
