What the heck is it with Subaru's 2009 colors?
« on: March 04, 2009, 04:52:36 PM »
God awful ugly colors for the Outback line up. Two that look like throwbacks to the harvest gold and harvest green of the 1960s. Others that are pale, washed out, subdued, and just ugly as hell. No vibrant colors; no forest greens, no rich blues, no vibrant reds. In fact, NO RED AT ALL! What the hell is up with that?

Hell, the color schemes alone make it a pretty sure bet that I'm going to buy used.

I thought their target market was Greenie Cult sorts, now? Is that why?

Wow, that sucks.  Sometimes you have to wonder what the marketing people are thinking...

Don't you typically get much better financing on a new car?  Granted, you take the depreciation hit, but that matters a good deal less if you keep the car for a good 12-15 years.

Or, are you paying cash?

From what I gathered of the ones I'd seen around here, (MA plates, Obama stickers, green-whatever stickers, Bush is a Terrorist, hiking, etc), it seems they're aiming at yuppie hippie as a demographic.

Which is a shame, it's not a bad car.

With my credit rating in this economy I can pretty much name the rate that I'm willing to pay.

Add to that the fact that when I do buy I'll have a big pawful of cash and I'll have them eating out of my hand.

What? You mean that you're not willing to drop me into that rate structure and throw in these items even though I have $10,000 cash to put down and am willing to take a car out of your current inventory? Today? Well, sir, you have a mighty fine day, I'm going to your competition.

I don't know, though, exactly when I'm intending on buying. The car I have is still going strong, and it would be sweet if I could get a couple more years out of it. I'm keeping up on what is available, though, just in case I do have to replace the thing quickly.

It's not so much targeted AT greenie cult types as much as it has become very popular with them.

It wasn't targeted specifically at rural postal carriers in northern states, but Outbacks are certainly popular with them.

Me? I don't give a rat's ass who it's popular with.

The Outback gives me the best dog/cargo hauling capabilities.

I'm still looking for one of those leftover right-hand drive mail carrier Subarus, myself.

Although, many that I've seen have contracted serious road salt cancer.   =|

That's what I'm saying. Marketingwise, it was picked up by that demographic, so now they're aiming it AT that demographic with the color choices. They don't appeal to you because you're not a greenie-cult sort...but they might be what was researched to appeal to them. That SAGE GREEN one especially.

I'm just saying why they did the colors. :)

Look, it's nonconfrontational!

I'm just sad they turned the Impreza into something that looks like a five year old Vauxhall.

Given their sales numbers, Subaru can afford to make a few mistakes here and there.

Maybe if you make a big stink about it you can get better colors... It worked for WRX fans.  =D

The WRX does come in red, because it's marketed as being confrontational. How could it be otherwise, with that intake that can suck up unsecured objects and small children nearby?

"Seacrest. Green. Metallic."

Some of the highest popularity cities for the car are Seattle and Portland. "Sea" in there somewhere...This is how marketing works. ;)

To us, it's ugly. To a birkenstock, it might be the most beautiful nonconfrontational, visually ambivalent vehicle color they've ever seen!

It almost feels like they snuck it in though. Ha ha.

Outbacks are one of the dominant vehicles up here in Northern Maine, so I can't really place a demographic on them without paying more attention. What I can say is that I haven't seen that color in person.

The colors aren't that bad. So long as it's not baby *expletive deleted*it yellow or green, I'm cool with it.

I was flabbergasted in 2004 when we were shopping for our Honda Uglyment and they did not offer the color WHITE.

WTF, over?

I live in Texas and I wanted the color that sucks up the least amount of heat and lasts best in the hash Texas sun: non-metallic white.

We settled on "champagne,' which is honda-speak for metallic tan.

The only one I even marginally like is the Newport Blue.

My 1997 is almost a Hunter Green over Gray, and I REALLY like that color combination.

You can always get it in old-man gold.

Black or white always works.  And the "newport blue" doesn't look too bad.
