Only $2M? Well, let me snatch that one right up.

(But, yes it is beautiful. Obviously has had lots of updates, too.)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Just keep them both, when retirement comes I want a single story home. I don't want to be one of those people that either stay downstairs or upstairs the whole time because of the (help I've fallen and I can't get up) stairs. ;)

Needs a moat.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,

I'd much prefer a smaller house on bigger land. $2M would buy a nice plot of ground on which to build a modest but comfortable house with a big freaking shop building.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Exactly the reason why our retirement house is a 2200 square foot rambler with wide doorways and a roll-in shower that would accommodate a wheelchair or walker.  We sold a 2700 square foot two story family home to get the rambler.

I'd like to build something like this floor plan (but not as a log cabin).  Put a basement under it, and move the water heater (and furnace) to the basement but leave the laundry on the main floor so you never really have to go in basement.  I'm not sure where to put the stairs, maybe a trapdoor?  https://www.applog.com/buy_fps/log_cabin/cimmaron.htm

I bet salaries for similar skilled jobs are not that different either.

I have thought of something with a hidden basement also. I thought of putting a manufactured home on a basement because it isn't common and then have an entrance to the basement go down through a kitchen island that one end slides out of the way and the counter pivots up to reveal the stairs. Very few people would even think about a basement in a manufactured home.

House too big, garage too small. My wife agrees. She doesn't want to clean something that big. I don't want to maintain an exterior like that. That's the kind of house I will buy when I can afford a gardener, maid, and pool contract. And the garage is still too small...

Iowa was settled by a lot of Germans and Dutch (Irish too), we got German foods every where. If not, we have Amazon.

While I would only occasionally order from Germandeli.com, I too was saddened by its demise.  Maybe next time I'm in Iowa you can point me to some good currywurst.
