You guys heard the scuttlebutt in regards to Lucas' upcoming blu-ray release of Star Wars?
He's leaving in his shytty edit that he made in 1997 or thereabouts, where Greedo shoots first in the cantina shootout.
Nevermind the fact that Greedo has the gun pointed at Han the whole conversation and couldn't have missed that shot blindfolded.
There's a facebook movement to boycott the blu-ray release due to this issue. I'm all for it. I think the original 1977 footage is better (in regards to the Star Trek TOS thread earlier) than Lucas' added special effects and additional B-role footage.
ETA: The actor that played Greedo agrees.

Sometime along the line, Lucas got it into his mind that Star Wars Was For Kids. Probably when he saw he was making just as much money on toys and other accessories as he was off the films.
Since then the series has been severely Bowdlerized.
At least, that's my theory.

lol, i've been boycotting everything the loser has done since the '80s [popcorn] welcome to the party. Spielberg (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083866/) is on the list as well.

Star Wars is for kids.
Too many fanboys have tried to reinterpret it as some deep philosophical work, which it isn't.
Lucas' decision to re-edit the cantina scene was probably motivated by his mistaken belief that his heroes must never be seen doing anything ruthless or morally questionable. Everything in his universe is black-and-white, Good or Evil. Moral complexity has no place in children's entertainment.
Since then the series has been severely Bowdlerized.
Yes.

Yes, he's been consistent saying Star Wars was based off all the Saturday matinee $.10 serials he'd watch as a kid growing up.
And the end product was only as good as it was as others noted, that he was not yet in complete control. (well, he was by the time of ROTJ, but consistency with the first two movies was enough to contain him there too...) In the prequels, you get Buckwheat/JarJar, Midichlorians, and Dex's diner. :P
And saying he made it for kids doesn't quite make total sense, because the kids watching the original trilogy have grown up, and the kids next generation kids grew up ripping out hearts playing Street Fighter or whatever, killing hookers in Grand Theft Auto, and peeping at Internet porn... So no real point in dumbing it down for them either.
Gah... Irvin Kershner being in charge of everything after TESB and having ROTJ be set around Kashyyak and with Wookies instead of Ewoks would have been epic.

Oh, gosh. Up until now, I had been successful in blocking out Dex's diner from my memory. Now it is all coming back, including that filthy T-shirt!

I'm with Declaration Day. ;/

I was rolling on the scene, great series.

I would be with Declaration Day, except Amy Adams could say just about anything and I would care.

It's Isla Fisher. A tragically under-rated comedy, too.

I knew God would not have been happy with just one!

They're the red-headed version of Portman/Knightley.

IIRC, Paladin, John Wayne, Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger and all the others shot first plenty of times.

I was *SIX* when A New Hope (what everyone refers to as "Star Wars" - the 1977 movie) came out. I understood full well that if Han hadn't shot Greedo under the table, then Greedo would have killed him without hesitation and dragged the smoking corpse back to Jabba. *SIX*. Why doesn't George grasp that kids aren't freaking STUPID???

not just kids, he's a lib. in his view everyone but him has an IQ of under 10. =(

Suppose he just got tainted with "Sesame Street Syndrome", from using Jim Henson's folks for a lot of his creature special effects in the 70's and 80's?

Liberals often have warped senses of morality so their vision of heroes are a bit warped.
