https://fry-electronics.com/the-392000-lifeguard-baywatch-as-union-shop/
This article was published in the WSJ today. I must be unclear on the duties of the staff, since it sounds as if they do more than sit in a tower on the beach.

Was that article written by a bot? Or computer translated from Chinese to Russian to English? The grammar is terrible and the article has weird syntax. Example: "To make sure, being a lifeguard isn’t all enjoyable within the solar." That sounds like a poor translation of "It aint all fun in the sun."

One of the reasons why freshly graduated English majors can't find jobs as simple as writing captions for products, etc., is that it has all been sent overseas. Probably India.
-
Do they have someone rub their hairy legs?

Amusing (?) sidelight, an incident that's stuck in my head.
Early 60s, just married, went for a job interview as a Tech Writer. "You can't be a Tech Writer, that's a $10,000 a year job."
Age discrimination.

"So you want to be a tech writer. Is English your first language?"
"Yes."
"Can you write?"
"Yes."
"Sorry, you're over-qualified for the job."

Don't you sort of need to make that much to afford a home within a short distance of the beach?
-
The more interesting question: Fry electronics is a news site now?

Lifeguards don't need to live that close to the beach. They can drive in, just like everyone else.

I have been in the Chevron refinery over at Hermosa beach. I think everyone who works for a living drives in. My company has a site there and some of the guys work 3 AM to 12 Noon or some odd schedule like that to avoid traffic. I think Chevron has RV parking for their operators to park for their shift sets.

Well, Fry's isn't using it anymore now that they've gone under...
Hell, they weren't really using it when they were solvent.

I'm not even going to tell you how much I'm making as a tech writer right now, but it's... nice.

More than a lifeguard?

Depends on what the lifeguard is guarding.

$73,542.82?
58 years, call it 3.5%/yr inflation X $10,000...
1.03558 x 10000
But of course, cost of driving, parking, clothes, diining out for lunch, etc is $63,542.82... right? So you're back at $10,000.

I passed $73k probably 15 years ago.
And people wonder why I live in metro Washington, DC.
My salary is why.
