Interesting map. Like many other social issues, progressives here seem to scream that we are "behind" the more progressive countries in the world, when we are in fact often well past them (depending on state), for good or bad, depending on your perspective.
I was surprised at Holland. Having been to Amsterdam, I would never guess that cannabis is technically illegal there.

Oh, so it's illegal in Russia...

No law needed because unless it's something Dear Leader told you to do assume it's illegal.

Doesn't N. Korea have trouble growing enough food? Maybe they can't afford to waste soil or labor on frivolities.
Except for the Big Guy, of course.

Wasn't there a similar map on abortion laws showing the US was actually more liberal than much of the world?

I wondered the same thing but didn't want to bring it up and kill the thread!

Fits the OP's subject matter as long as we stick to the legalities of abortion and don't get mired in arguments of it's morality. I know it can be hard for some subjects but it can be done.

Should it be shown as legal in the US right now? Since the FedGov still has it as illegal?

Yeah, that is a technical inaccuracy of the map. Though in practice, does fed.gov ever do anything about stare laws on the matter? If only they were so laissez faire about gun laws.

Meth is legal and common N. Korea. Drugged people are more tolerant of crooked governments.

The extremism of the Roe v Wade regime (compared to abortion laws in Europe) has been a common anti-abortion talking point for a while now.

Meanwhile in the US, I had to have my ID scanned today to buy 24 generic Sudafed capsules.

Iowa is definitely not decriminalized

No debate on the premise that addicted souls are easily manipulated, just that the meth tweakers I've met are anything but passive or tolerant! Haha.

When the false edifice of the law is torn down, a great calm will descend.
Or was it a great clam?

Some years ago, I read a story about some American POWs being held in N. Korea. They would go out in the countryside on work gangs, where they found wild marijuana growing in abundance. Their guards didn't seem to know what it was for. The POWs did.

I still can't believe that recreational marijuana is going to be legal in Missouri. I figured enough people would of came out and voted no for that amendment.

Personal liberty is a strong drug.

Oklahoma will be voting on recreational weed in the near future. I suspect it will pass.
I don't personally have a problem with recreational pharmaceuticals, don't roll that way myself beyond alcohol. My only big wish would be a roadside sobriety/under the influence test at least as accurate as a breathalyzer. We've already got way too many people driving drunk, stoned and/or stupid. I suspect legal recreational weed will increase the driving stoned by a significant amount.

I'm not all that surprised by it. It is interesting that, judging by its legal status in various states, marijuana is not as much of a partisan issue as a lot of people seem to think. Bears out what I've thought all along.
I wonder if a lot of voters (whether left, right, or otherwise) are just thinking that police resources need to focus on more pressing problems. That is, given the uptick in violent crimes, not to mention fentanyl, heroin, prescription drug abuse, etc.
-
Not legal here but it might as well be. Policy is pretty much they won't even bother you unless something else gets their attention.
Personally i can't stand the smell of the stuff.

Kinda wonder how that's going to play out with Kansas. Sure, Colorado had it, but there's not a lot of population in western Kansas. But KC is on the MO border - access to Kansas metro residents is about to get much easier. And 30% of the population of Kansas is in those 5 counties.

It will be curious what Iowa does too. It is predicted that Minnesota will be legal for recreational marijuana this year, might as well be since hemp based THC is already legal there. Along with Illinois and Missouri being legal.
Same for Wisconsin since it will be surrounded by legal states.
Also the human body doesn't recognize a difference between hemp or cannabis source of THC, so you can get high in MN.
