Yeah, but a LOT of people have seen either the Deer Hunter or the Simpsons episode that is a take off of the Deer Hunter.

It's not an uncommon phrase and there are a bunch of memes for it.

That's funny.  I've never seen either of those.  I IMDB'd the movie, it looks interesting.

I spent a bunch of my teenage years eating Vietnamese food at restaurants* that were right outside an army bases.  I picked it up there.

*There were two kinds of Vietnamese restauranters where I grew up.  Wives of US GI's that had come back with them, and vets of the war that had come over after the fall of Saigon.  I'm not convinced all of them were ARVN vets either.  But the second group had much more....colorful eating experience for a young white boy who claimed to love spicy food.

There are about 3 million Pho 75 restaurants, many on the East Coast.

There are also a pretty good number of Pho 54 restaurants, some here in the east, but many on the West Coast.

Those numbers point to 1975 -- the fall of Saigon -- and 1954 -- Dien Bien Phu.

Bogie, that place has been around for about 5 years now, I think. My wife really likes it. I could tell you the food's good, but it's the only Viet food I've had, so I'm not sure how helpful my recommendation would be.

After 1975 many Vietnamese settled in the Clarendon section of Arlington, Virginia, which became known as Little Saigon.

After a metro station opened there in the 1980s a lot of the Vietnamese businesses got priced out and moved a couple of miles up the road to the Eden Center, which is virtually 100% Vietnamese businesses, including some absolutely incredible restaurants.

Still some damned good Vietnamese restaurants in Clarendon but they tend to be more upscale. Eden Center is where you go if you want really good, but not at all expensive, Vietnamese food.

Ever go to Sheesh, the Turkish place? Don't know if they're still around.

Vegan pizza is freaking fantastic! I love it with the meat and dairy cheese toppings.

We've only been a couple of times, but really liked it. A platter full of meat, rice, peppers, and onions - it works for me. They also make a great rice pudding.

My favorite Chinese place is Joy Luck Buffet on Manchester and Hanley.

#2 is a place near me that is also "chinese" that is run by a Mexican family.

Not trendy. But they understand spicy.

Did you ever go to Park Chop Suey?  They used to be in an old house on Park a couple of blocks east of Jefferson but are now on the corner of 14th and Chippewa, across from the BP station.  Co-worker got me started there back in the early 80s.

You're right.  I got my streets mixed up as I don't live in STL.  When the "Dr.Who" club I am in had their meetings at the Buder Library, I would frequently stop there for a bunch of take home.

Bogie, do you ever go to The Mud House? Their breakfast burritos are pretty good.

UKraft, in West County, makes an even better breakfast burrito, and the hash browns are excellent. Too far west for you, though.

I may check it out. I'll report back on what they do when they see an Ultra MAGA t-shirt or a Make Christmas Great Again hat...
