Garden question ie peppers
« on: August 08, 2013, 09:33:16 AM »
My bell peppers, red and yellow flowered and lost all their flowers making no peppers save one on each plant. This has now happened a couple times. The one pepper on each is full sized but hasn't changed color yet.

Why are they not producing? It is a little discouraging as I was so looking forward to harvesting my own bell peppers. One pepper per plant isn't a very efficient use of garden space!

On a positive note, my single jalapeno plant is producing like crazy. I'm trying to be patient and let the peppers turn red. I've heard they are much tastier when fully ripe. On occasion I've harvested one off the plant to cook with but I've been good overall.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

I've never had great success with classic bell peppers.  I do a lot better with giant Marconi and similar.  They grow more like a hot pepper.

Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

So the extended temps in 90's probably did the first ones in and the week of mid 50's at night did the second batch in.

Sometimes it's just luck and timing. We are getting lots of nice bell peppers right now. Some plants are breaking from the weight even tho they are caged.
I learned a long time ago not to plant your jalapeño or habernero close to your bell peppers. They can cross pollinate.
My wife made a batch of stuffed peppers and half of them were as hot as the haberneros even tho they looked like bells and came off the same plant. I caught hell for that.
What we have here is failure to communicate.

add "width= ???" after the first img tag

So it looks like {img width=780}*  in this instance.  ;)

Ahh, I tried that but was missing the space between img and width.

Dumb question, but are the flowers getting pollinated?  You might take a small clean paint brush and play Mr. Bee.  Spread the pollen from flower to flower.

Last year I grew "Fajita Bell" peppers in my garden.

They had a nice amount of heat, just this side of a standard jalapeno, while looking like a normal bell pepper.
