Northern VA gun club needs your help
« on: June 02, 2006, 07:51:38 AM »
The Northern Virgina Gun Club in King George, VA (http://www.northernvirginiagunclub.org/) is at risk of loosing their ranges due to a planned "Rails to Trails" trail that will run along the top of their backstop!

It is a long story involving easments, right of ways and other items, but the take home message is that the club, along with their neighbors, is at risk of having a public right of way run through their private property. The club is launching a legal defense, but what is needed is a public face of those opposed to the trail. If you are in the area, or know people in the area, please pass along these two dates and events.

If you plan to attend, please remember not to play to the anti-gunners stereotypes in both attire and deportment.

The first event is this Saturday June 3rd for the scheduled grand opening ceremony opening 2 miles of the trail. The club president is requesting that we meet at 8:30 AM at Caledon Natural Area State Park. The pro trail group have rented the park pavilion and will be using the area as their parking area also. Therefore, our meeting area will be further down toward the park visitor center parking area underneath the overhead lamp post. Instructions and assignments with various teams will be provided at that time. This event will last to approximately 1 PM.

The second event is to come out and show support along side our neighbors opposing the trail at the next King George Board of Supervisors (BoS) meeting scheduled for Tuesday June 6th at 6:30 PM at the Revercomb Bldg. behind the Courthouse. Mr. David Brickley is scheduled to make a presentation on the RTT and answer BoS questions that evening. I would like our members to help lend support to our King George neighbors in helping to provide a strong opposition show of force in attendance against the RTT for the BoS and media to take notice. Thank you in advance for your support.

Also, the Cavalier Rod and Gun Club (north of Richmond) is also facing challenges from noise complaints and zoning disuputes.

Thanks,
DrA

We've got a similar situation at Metacon Gun Club in AVon CT. New development complaing about noise. The tactic THEY are using is to litigate the club's treasury away which has caused the club to assess it's members several times now to cover legal fees.

Good luck, wish I could join you!
