So you apparently need to take English Comp 101 for a CCW permit in this MA town. I wonder how that affects diversity? I'm more shocked at the permit cost.

Well the cost is the class needed to be considered for the permit.
Wonder if they required an essay before voting?
-
They have to do a FIVE DAY class? Yeah, only rich people need apply.
I am so glad Texas doesn't allow every little town to set their own rules. There are a lot of conservatives down here, but there are also lots of nosy busy bodies in local politics that would make some towns tough to live in (or near).

When Ohio instituted the CCW permit laws, they had already put state preemption in place. They also went a step further and allow applicants to seek the permit in their home county or a neighboring county, which pretty much eliminates situations like this where one anti has the ability to counteract the laws.

I'd write them an essay...
It would focus mostly on why guns are a necessity when the government is better at harassing the law-abiding than punishing the guilty.

Actually, I'd like to see that. What, 1000 words or so?

Glad I don't have to live there....my paper would look a lot like a lawsuit draft written by Alan Gura....

"Trouble is, these jerkwads can pass dumb, self-serving, agenda-driven stupid laws much faster than we can beat them down in the courts. And they're well aware of that."
It was in your sig line this whole time, 230RN

So a poll tax and a literacy test.

Remember to have the county sheriff sign your ballot before submitting it. [tinfoil]

There's always Chelmsford, or wander a few miles north and be done with it. A non-resident MA permit may be good for only one year but there's no added BS.

There's always UHaul and 49-56 other states.

Do you need a note from the funeral director if you're dead?

You'd better get one, else in that county you may end up voting Democrat after you're dead.

Thinking about this, I'd be really interested in reading an essay from someone that is approved and one from someone who is rejected. Curious to see what content his highness finds to be appropriate, or as has been hinted at, if this is more of a way of excluding those who can't afford it...I mean who can't write articulately.

It would also be interesting to see how they handle non-English papers.

I wonder if those papers would be subject to an FOIA request?

Subpoena would be a better avenue...

Particularly Manx, when spelled out phonetically in Cyrillic characters.

Dear Police Supervisor Taylor,
I need a gun for all legal purposes.
Thanks in advance for your permission to exercise a fundamental civil right.
Yours in sincerity,

Dear police chief,
I choose guns because they require less physical strength to use than it taKes to hang a fat tyrant..
-
I'd submit a copy of the Constitution, both state and Federal, and save the writing for my lawsuit.

They just rolled summon Alan Gura.

According to "Chuck's" comments to the article at....
http://gunsnfreedom.com/ma-city-requires-written-essay-to-obtain-gun-permit/6277
...the penalties for depriving somebody of their civil rights under color of law range from fines and time in the pokey right on up to the death penalty.
Read it for yourself, but here's a sample of "Chuck's" comments:
chuck says January 24, 2016 at 4:21 pm...
DEPRIVATION OF RIGHTS UNDER COLOR OF LAW SUMMARY:
TITLE 18, U.S.C., SECTION 242 Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, … shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnaping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.
I had to kind of laugh at that citation because I guess "we don't need no steenkin' revolution." All we need is to "enforce the laws already on the books."
