Daschle may be out officially, but he's still part of Obama's health care team. Jones will probably be an unofficial advisor to Obama as well.

I doubt that he's totally out of the administration, his quitting allows him to do what he wants/needs to do without consequences to the president.  He is now a loose cannon, and will stay below the radar of the MSM.

I'm starting to think that presidents are choosing their VP's based on the theory that a particularly bad one will ward off assassination attempts. I mean, Bush had Cheney (who was considered to be worse than Bush by the administration's enemies), Obama has Biden, then there was Gore and Quayle...

Assassins aren't political insiders, making the subtle calculations of a courtier (or a lobbyist), and they aren't planning four, five moves ahead on the power chart.  They're more likely to have a personal grudge or be following instructions from their dog.
