Big Trouble in Burkina Faso
« on: October 30, 2014, 06:46:29 PM »
Simply because A) it is one of my all-time favorite countries; B) The capital has a really, really cool name; C) You'd think with a name like Blaise the president would be really laid-back; and of course, D) I shipped a corpse there once, and got in trouble for it.

Wonder if we even have a Burkina Faso policy.  Or a BF desk at the State Dept.....  (Hey!!!! Someone go wake up Jim!!!  There's finally something happening his country other then the yearly harvest !!!)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Big Trouble in Burkina Faso

sounds like the title of a bad movie

(What's going on there?)
In thy presence is fulness of joy.
At thy right hand pleasures for evermore.

Never even heard of that place. Gotta get the Google on it.

Got it.

Western Africa.

Seems the current president desires to remain in power even though he has been president for 27 years.  The locals are less than happy with that plan.

Did they capture our Q-bomb ?

Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

Very interesting Wiki article on the country, especially regarding the politics.

Quote
With French help, Blaise Compaoré seized power in a coup d'état in 1987. He overthrew his long-time friend and ally Thomas Sankara, who was killed in the coup.

Gee, I'm shocked that such things can happen.

Say, how are the gun laws there?

Is the U.S. going to intervene to preserve democracy?

Curious minds would like to know.

It's certainly got some interesting city names:
