BOSTON -- An armed man took people hostage Friday at a Hillary Clinton presidential campaign office in New Hampshire, police said.
The incident happened at about 1 p.m. Friday at 28 North Main St. in Rochester. Officials said that a man is holding people hostage at the office, but it is unclear how many people are being held.
There are several police officers positioned across the street from the office, crouched down behind cruisers with guns drawn, according to a reported at the scene.
Nearby businesses have been evacuated, and the St. Elizabeth Seaton School has been locked down.
Clinton, who is not in New Hampshire, is attending a National Democratic Committee meeting in Virginia.
NewsCenter 5 and TheBostonChannel.com will have more information when it becomes available.
Oh, YAY.
-
she probably arranged it to drum up sympathy for her failing presidential candidacy.
-
Hum...
An "armed" individual takes hostages...
Secret effort by Hillary to push her gun control agenda?
Nah...
We all know that politicials NEVER orchestrate *COUGH Reichstag fire COUGH* incidents to bolster their agendas...
-
A buddy of mine said that it would never happen in a Republican Campaign Office-
Everyone in there is armed, and the chap you look like Swiss Cheese by now.
-
Reports are now that the guy has a bomb strapped to his chest with duct tape. They've positioned snipers.

Yes, only in a Hillary office. Some other office, they might be introduced to famous local New Hampshire products, our fine firearms made in Exeter.

Agreed, but it's too early for a Reichstag fire. First she has to get into office, and lay the groundwork for the enabling acts. Then the fire, to propel it through.

I have been listening for awhile and I have not heard a thing about him having a gun yet. He does claim to have a bomb. Maybe this is a plot to get "The Patriot Act III: papers please" passed.
-
Probably just a deranged sort. Possible attempt at suicide by cop with a last bit of notoriety, who knows? You know the media will be doing retrospectives of the "troubles" of whomever it was.
If it was a jihadist, they'd have just yelled something about allah and gone boom, they don't tend to take hostages with bombs.
-
News is reporting that he wants to talk to Hillary on TV.
-
Probably just a deranged sort.
Hopefully it's a deranged liberal.
-
Right now, I just hope the hostages get out unharmed. I don't care about the politics.
Best end would be hostages run, hostage-taker gets kneecapped by a sniper. Not killed, but it'd hurt like hell. And then prison for life.
And the hostages might have learned a lesson about why being armed is good.
It's always been my opinion that if someone takes hostages, if the hostages get freed and the hostage-taker is still alive, the former hostages should each be given a steel-toed boot and allowed to deliver one kick in the jewels to the hostage-taker for their violation of rights. Seems fair.
-

Well that seals it. DEFINITELY degranged.
-

I guess I should worry more, but I'm confident it won't end in a kaboom. If he meant to blow up, as you pointed out earlier, he would have by now. Either they'll talk him down, or they'll take him out. And apparently suicide bombers are too stupid (thankfully) to use dead-man switches.

I just got a glimpse of the mad bomber on tv. He looks just like Bill.

Not among my top 10 'most likely to discount a vast conspiracy' but still.
Law enforcement sources have told the BBC that the suspect is well-known locally, and has a history of emotional issues.
He had earlier told his son to watch the news, according to sources.

Anybody want to bet it's a plant? :neener:
-
Insane guy who wants to be on TV. It's probably not a live bomb. Apparently, hostages are supposed to be gone, and the cops are trying to figure out a way to avoid shooting the lunatic.
-
Is it too early to start taking bets whether this "disturbed" person is armed with a vest of deadly sticks of play-doh?
-
CNN.com I believe has a bit saying that people have identified him as a fairly well known local individual who has a history of emotional problems.

Seymour Skinner: "I have a bomb."
Chief Wiggum: "Wait a minute. Those aren't bombs. They're hot dogs. Armour hot dogs."
Superintendent Chalmers: "What kind of man wears Armour hot dogs?"

Amazing the fun a mentally ill person can have with an old clock, some duct tape, and some hobby clay.
-
Well, there was also that idiot MIT student who went into Logan with lights and wires on her shirt, and wondered why she suddenly had MP5s pointed at her head.
-
I wouldn't get too worried, likely just a jealous husband from one of Bill's "adventures".

He doesn't actually believe that, does he?

Why not? It's New Hampshire. Most people I know carry concealed.

You're preaching to the choir, man.

Okay, that's twice in like 5 minutes that I've found myself in agreement with Manedwolf. I think I should be buying lotto tickets or something right now.

Um...hm...Dover SWAT, these are.
Is it SOP to stand right to the right of the ejection port of your fellow officer's rifle?

I think that guy is further back than you think. But who cares? It's just brass.

They must have got a good deal price on woodland camo BDU's.

In one of the news stories someone witnessed him buying road flares in a store prior to the event.
So, almost certainly no bomb, just a known nut with road flares. Which wouldn't have been a problem if the campaign staffers could recognize a road flare on sight.
"I have a bomb, I'll kill us all!"
"Ummm, nope, you've got a bunch of road flares and you'll suffer some painful burns. Hit the bricks Bugsy."
-
Um...hm...Dover SWAT, these are.
Hmmm, one of those guys taught my carbine course at SigArms.
In case you haven't heard, it ended peacefully. Drat.
-
I've shot with two of those SWAT guys. One is a regular at my monthly IDPA matches.

If they were the cheaper type, they're the same off-red paper as the old movie images of "dynamite", so I can't blame the general citizenry for thinking that's what they might be. Especially if they were obscured by duct tape at the ends and he just flashed them quickly and closed the coat again.

Dp you shoot at Pelham?

I'm just wondering...
When something like this happens in a small city, do they call a time-out so everyone can change clothes? Puhleeze don't tell me that they have all these guys sitting around in camo all day long...

Dynamite is brown or off-whiteish. Road flares are red and have writing on them. I'm supercilious and expect people to know the difference, after all, I do. Where's the "pat self on back for being so cool" smilie?

The SWAT team came from Dover, NH. They are full-time officers, and part-time SWATies. They only put on the special clothes for special occassions.
Dover, just south of Rochester, is the larger of the two towns. Rochester has a population of about 30k.

Followup...Now I feel bad that they didn't get a chance to shoot him.
Rundles cited Eisenberg's prior convictions in asking for the bail. The cases cited dated back to a knife possession charge in 1978. Others included an assault with deadly weapon case in 1981 and a rape in Worcester, Mass., in 1985. He escaped from custody after the rape and was recaptured in New Hampshire after committing a second rape. Other convictions on record include some in New Hampshire in recent years.
The defendant was known as Ralph E. Woodward before taking on the Eisenberg name in recent years.

Sounds like a Dem. target voter.
