RAF flypast for Britain's oldest man
« on: June 03, 2006, 02:30:04 PM »
The RAF has scheduled a fly-past over the East Sussex coast to celebrate the 110th birthday of Britain's oldest man.

Two tornadoes from 31 squadron are to fly over the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne for the anniversary on Tuesday.

Mr Allingham, a World War I air service veteran, lived in the town after retiring, but recently moved to a care home near Brighton.

Just thought it was a nice story.

"Mr Allingham, a World War I air service veteran..."

It just boggles my mind that there are WW I veterans still with us.

I think it's kinda interesting. June 6... to be honest, I thought of D-Day before I thought of 666. Shocked

Still though, for 110 years the guy doesn't look a year over 70. :/

Yes, he was in the Naval Air Service in the days prior to the RAF. He was born before powered flight, and may remember the beginning of the twentieth century.

84 when I was born.
