Wings To Go
« on: March 07, 2006, 12:16:31 PM »
We had one open in town recently, going over after work Wednesday night with co workers. Any one had any experience with this restaurant?
I love hot wings, I love the wings from Buffalo Wild Wings and Hooters.

Nah, there was a Wing Stop near my former residence. When the wind blew just right, it was like living next to a rendering plant. Never have cared for the acid smell. Figured if it tasted like it smelled, I'd pass.

Even worse, there's one next to one of my favorite gunshops.  Gotta swab out my nares with Hoppes No.9 to get the smell out.

So I checked the place out last night. I had their "hot" wings, it was kids stuff, but tasted good. I tried a bit of their hottest sauce "homicide" wasn't as bad as it sounded on the heat level, but it had a lot of vinegar in it which made it not so good.

They did have breaded and fried Portabella mushrooms, those were very good. Beer was only a buck a draw during happy hour 3-6pm so life was good.

4 beers and 20 wings was $15.41 so prices aren't bad. I liked it enough to go back again.

Seems a bit on the high side, around here that is a 10 dollar meal, I could believe 15 if it was normal beer prices.

We have a lot of very good wing places locally and we also have a Wings To Go.  My wife and I are wing connoisseursand we tried WTG last week.  I was nonplussed, as was my wife.  There are better places, here at least.  I found the "Suicide" sauce not hot enough, but had sampled enough that I didn't ask for the homicide sauce.  The beer was good, though.

Thats pretty cheap at $10. I work in college town so everything is more expensive, there is a nickel to dime difference in fuel between Ames and the surrounding communities, even that much of a difference between and Ames and Des Moines.

Because they were invented in Buffalo, New York in 1964

We don't have a WTG here.. but we do have Wingstop.. I have to say they are one of the best wing makers I've tried.
Their garlic parmesian wings are the best.

As a NJ Devils fan who's married to a Av's fan, that'd make me so happy!

Actually, it's funny. Since I enlisted, I've noticed I can keep up with almost none of my old interests. It's like the Corps is sucking up all my time and attention, leaving me nothing but itself. Odd. Maybe that's why I like APS so much; reminds me of life as a civilian... I know it sounds strange, but I miss the days when I cared about unimportant things like sports. Perhaps it's just normal nostalgia for the halcyon days of my youth?

It has been quite a few years since I became religious and started keeping kosher so I don't remember too well.  I did used to eat at Wings to Go a lot, but primarily because it was convenient- they had one about a mile from my house.  I much prefered the local chain "Cluck U" (they usually set up near a university campus)- they had much more flavor, huge wings, and were available painfully hot.  From what I remember WTG was OK though and their fries were terrific.

Well when you only have on wing place in town WTG isn't bad.  I like the name Cluck U, maybe one will open up in campus town here.

Well, I think it might take a while 'till they get out that way-

Of course, I suppose you could always open your own franchise to hurry it up Cheesy

Seriously, they may eventually have one your way (from their website):

"Their goal is to have a Cluck-U-Chicken ® restaurant near every college campus and in every city in the U.S., and later, the world. "

Man, I'm starting to miss "Cluck U", I wonder if it would be possible to open one that is kosher (probably not).  I better stop thinking about it.

Open your own kosher chicken wings place, chicken wings fried in vegtable oil and bathed in sauce. But you can't have the blue cheese or ranch dressing to go with them.
