Audio capture?
« on: December 10, 2022, 05:06:32 PM »
I need to capture audio off my computer, and I have no idea how to do it. Can anyone guide me?

If I need special software, I can't afford to buy. Freeware only, please.

I've never used it for that specifically, but check out Audacity.  It's free and very good.

Yes, try Audacity.  It can capture almost any source you can play on your PC.  Plus Audacity has a great suite of tools for editing, cleaning up, normalizing, etc.  I've been using it for years.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Audacity, Pretty powerful, pretty easy, VERY useful!
For capturing YouTube Audio/Video, use 4k Video Downloader: https://www.4kdownload.com/downloads/29#

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

youtube-dl is free, and (among other things) can rip audio from online video.  https://yt-dl.org/

MP3 audio-only files. I purchased a couple of audios from a site that were advertised as "downloads." When I got to my library and tried to download -- they would play on my computer, but there was no way to download for future, off-line listening.

Turns out it's another example of browser wars. The third time I went back to the site, I spotted a notice that the site is optimized for Firefox and Chrome. I don't allow Chrome on my computers, but I do have an up-to-date Firefox (although it isn't my primary browser), so I tried that. Still no joy.

So I tried Edge -- and suddenly the download icon was there, as advertised.

So the immediate issue has been resolved, but I will look into Audacity for future reference. Thanks.

A thing I have to do sometimes is, in Firefox, Ctl-U to show page source, then search that for "<filename>.mp3".  When (if) you find it, use the mouse to highlight the url from http to the end of mp3.  Ignore anything past that.  Right click, "save link as".
