Reporters Lacking Awareness

Yeah,  yeah,  Trump cancelled a rally.

That's not the point of this thread.

From the article:

Quote
However, 19-year-old Rusty Shackleford of Lombard, in line to attend the Trump rally, said he was there to "support the man who wants to make America great again."

(If you're curious about why this is amusing,  google Rusty Shackleford, and yes it's completely work safe.)

Someone has apparently noticed because the AP is busy scrubbing that sentence from several websites without ever noting the article was updated.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I saw that on the other thread. I guffawed wildly.

Yeah, I got here from there, too.  I can't believe "the press" missed that.

Easy to miss. I had to look up the name.  It is the name of a minor character occassionally referenced by another character on a TV show that has been off the air for years.

Trump supporters do not deserve a safe space, apparently.

I'm waiting for Art Vandelay to chime in on this.

Yeah, but it's one of *those* shows. It also still runs in syndication on several channels (including the CW which is a basic broadcast channel) I wouldn't have gotten it, but, as far as pop culture goes, someone really dropped the ball on this one.

That is the problem with pop culture; what is popular is constantly changing.  If the kid had said he was Caitlyn Jenner then I bet the reporter would have caught the lie.

Well, that's true, and Fly320's remark is appropriate.

Old pop references throw younger folks, and new pop references throw older folks.

I note with amusement that we have a Boomhauer as a member.  But that could be a real name as well as another character in "King of the Hill."

I kinda figured I'd better quit watching that show when I started to understand Boomhauer...
