No link, just now heard it on the teevee.
Apparently today is the last day to comment on an FCC policy that would allow cell calls on flights via Wi-Fi. Thankfully (IMO) 98% of the comments to the FCC have been "Dear God - NO!!!!".
I can barely stand it when everyone is on their phones pre-doors closing and post flight taxi. I guess you could argue that there's not much difference between a phone call and a couple of passengers talking to each other, but for me at least, the phone calls with the one-way conversations seem more annoying, more distracting, and louder.

And people generally aren't stupid enough to read off their credit card number to the passenger next to them. Much less repeat it 2-3 times to make sure they got it right.
Order them some cool stuff from the in-flight magazine once you've got that info.

Being more peasant-like than most of you, I found it distracting as hell to hear one-sided (and loud) conversations on the bus.
Haven't flown since 1973-ish.
No wonder the nays have it on this matter.

An airplane is one of the few places I can be free from calls. Besides, wi-fi networks on planes are supposedly not secure.

I doubt any voip providers aren't using security on top of the raw TCP connection. OSI layer 6

I'll take your word for it, but still have no desire to talk on the phone during a flight.

Eat up all their bandwidth torrenting Linux distros and streaming videos. Problem solved.
Maybe build an app for a Kindle so you can control it from your phone, then you can leave it at home with a webcam pointed at it, and read it streaming live in 1080p on your phone or laptop.

Me neither, but that doesn't mean I am opposed to allowing others to do so.

When I fly, my noise canceling headphones and iPod go on as soon as allowed and stay there until I have to remve then for descent. Works fine with my wife, who sees flying as quality reading time, not talking time.
