Years ago before Shall Issue and Canada's paranoia with guns, I had a General Concealed Carry license here in Michigan. One still could not carry in Canada, though. We were going to Canada to take a hop on the Snow Train out of the Canadian Soo in the fall for the colors. I called the USA border and asked if I could store my pistol before we crossed into Canada. I was treated like I was a leper and had the plague. So I called the Canadian border office and asked if I could check my weapon there. I was told it would be no problem at all.
When we got to the border, I pulled aside and contacted the officers and they took me inside and put my pistol in a lock box, gave me some paperwork and had a nice chat for 5 minutes or so about my carry pistol, which happened to be a .40 cal Glock 27 at the time.
