Title: Georgia (Country) Ski Lift Breakdown
Post by: Ben on March 16, 2018, 04:06:25 PM
Holy crap. I guess there was no emergency shutoff, or what?

It looks like since people are coming down backward that something sheared off and gravity-fed downhill. Not sure any sort of off switch would help that. Maybe redundant braking systems.

I was wondering about that, but it kinda looked to me like the wheel was still being powered. You'd think there would be a brake or gear lock at both ends in case one did shear or break.

Obviously, the Russians hacked the Georgian power grid, reversed the flow of electrons to make the motor run in reverse, and boosted the frequncy from 50 Hz to 100 Hz to make the lift run at double speed.

Elementary, Mr. dear Watson.

There was a that odd noise so maybe that was just the gearing/braking in overdrive going the wrong way.  At least it looked like people were jumping off before they got thrown off at the end.

Georgia (Country) Ski Lift Breakdown

Ah, yes, I remember it well. That song was perhaps the best example of the short-lived Down-home Down-hill Country genre.
