Obama says he'll order review of executive orders

Barack Obama told House Democrats on Tuesday that as president he would order his attorney general to scour White House executive orders and expunge any that "trample on liberty," several lawmakers said.

Presidents, as head of the executive branch of government, issue such orders to direct operations of executive branch agencies, like the Justice Department and the CIA. For example, President Bush used an executive order last year to breathe new life into the CIA's controversial terror interrogation program that allowed harsh questioning of suspects.

Obama "talked about how his attorney general is to review every executive order and immediately eliminate those that trample on liberty," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.

"He indicated there would be a review in his administration," said Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the House majority whip.

Obama did not mention executive orders when he addressed reporters who waited for him outside the closed-door meeting. He said only that he would be campaigning alongside members to win the presidency and help expand Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.

"I am looking forward to collaborating with everyone here to win the election, but more importantly to collaborate with everybody here and also some like-minded Republicans to actually govern and to deliver on behalf of the American people," Obama said.

During his presidency, Bush increasingly has relied on executive orders to dictate policies without seeking congressional approval. His orders have ranged from restrictions on striped bass fishing to sanctions against Myanmar's government.

Obama did not indicate who his attorney general would be, or any other member of his Cabinet. To lawmakers who asked about his Cabinet plans, Obama said: "Get me elected, and then I'll worry about the Cabinet," according to Nadler.

Clyburn added that Obama said there were "people in the room with more expertise than him."

What are the chances that he will get rid of any executive orders dealing with the BATFE?  Smiley

About that same that he will negate the executive orders that created the DEA.

Now that's actually a good idea. Shame he won't actually do it.

Oh he'd do it. Just that his version of trample on liberty and your version of trample on liberty are probably very different.

probably a good policy for any prez.

Problem is his view of trampling on liberty is a probably a weeee bit off.

Yea, he'll expunge them alright.  And then write his own executive orders.

0% Chance of this actually changing anything, even if they were reviewed (which they won't be) only un-used ones would be removed as a "token"

Actually a review of executive orders by a new President is probably rather standard.  Just something that usually isn't publicized unless dramatic changes happen.

Folks, those aren't the scary scenarios.

The scary scenario is that when and if the Clintons ascend to the Supreme Court and/or HRC becomes Attorney General, the United States of America will be a viable nation in name only.  We will have reached the point that so many other countries have come to, countries we used to observe with concern, pity, and disdain, wondering how orderly and just states fell into anarchy and violence.  Half the country will consider "the rule of law" a cruel joke at that juncture, and Pandora's box will truly have been opened, perhaps never to be closed again.  We are not just going to be covered with a thick socialist blanket before we are smothered.  The tyrants will bring down the jackboots and all hell will break loose.

In the end it will come down, as it has elsewhere, to whom and to what the military is truly loyal.  I think we are all wondering about that.

Hooray for violent revolution, VIVA LA CONSERVATIVE MIDDLE AMERICA!!

Seriously though I can't imagine a Clinton on the big bench or asthe AG the complete lack of credible experience wouldn't fly. That said if it did it might be time to grab your fully automatic, .50 BMG with the pistol grip bayonet lugs, green and yellow toy colored paint and high capacity magazine and dispence some freedom. Thomas Jefferson would be proud.

As dangerous and foul as I think them to be, either of the Clintons are (on paper) better qualified than Ginsburg.

Yeah.............Which liberties?

You can bet he'll issue EOs that'll give the jack-booted, sturmtruppen thug bastards of the Waffen BATFEces even more creative license to further restrict our 2A liberties mitigating any positive effect Heller may have had in regaining them.

He'll remove any that merely trample on liberty, and replace them with some that really stomp it into the ground.

I suspect every president takes a look at standing executive orders. Despite the rantings of a few, most are mundane and deal with implementation of laws congress has passed directing that some thing be done, but without much guidance on just how it is to be done.
