"Advanced Ripeness."  Loved it.  You mean moldy, don't you?

You should re-read what you said, and I'm not taking back what I said.

These unitary "my brother in law had it and died / was sick for a week / became impotent" stories are not enlightening.

I'm no champion of the medical industry, but I'm reminded of back in the day when a lot of people would not give their kids polio shots (or the later mouth vaccine) for vacuous reasons.

Yet we basically rid the world of polio.  Fortunately, there's a transmission vector effect, where if enough of the population are immunized, the disease has fewer and fewer "pathways" to propagate and dies away.

But in the meantime, people die from "it" (whatever is the "it" de jour) needlessly.  So thank you for dying, thereby restricting the propagation channels.

So.  Go ahead and propagate the propaganda and good luck to you and your heirs.  That's a joke...but a sharply-pointed one.

On second thought, don't bother telling me, I've no more interest in them than I do in the organ grinder's monkey.

Well said!

12 O'Clock high & Black Sheep Squadron.

There was a series about a US unit in (IIRC) Africa, driving around in Jeeps kicking ass.  Can't recall the name...
12 O'Clock High - of course. BSS came along later.

I learned that Jeeps with .50s on board were more than a match for Panzers by watching . . . The Rat Patrol.  (German Afrika Korps Panzers looked a lot like M7 Priest SPGs.  )

The Roundtable / Re: Why would anyone voluntarily travel to Mexico?

Back in the late '70s used to go to Mexico for fishing & dive trips.  Didn't feel real safe even accompanied by 10 to 20 Marines, we'd detour around the major cities.  Sure as hell wouldn't go down there now.

BTW, the ocean water is beautiful down there!  Looking up from 100' depth could see the birds flying over. We might or might not have had lobster most every night while camping on the beach.  Verified that one lobster was so big the guy had to hug it to his chest to get it to the surface.  We didn't bother weighing it.  Did find a rattler sunning himself in a hip-hole I'd dug to sleep in the trip before.  Started using a cot after that.

Met Gala 2024 WORST-dressed stars revealed: Amelia Gray Hamlin . . . Lana Del Rey . . .  J. Harrison Ghee . . . Jessica Safferty . . . Rita Ora . . . Doja Cat . . . A-listers including Rihanna and Blake Lively are no shows . . .
OK, I've HEARD of the last two - but who the hell are the first half dozen names?

On second thought, don't bother telling me, I've no more interest in them than I do in the organ grinder's monkey.

Funny, but now "Also sprach Zarathustra" is playing in my head.
