« on: March 04, 2009, 01:30:11 AM »
I have recently taken to an old favorite that I had forgotten about.

Mellow Corn...100 proof...smooove.

What whiskey(s) do you like to sip?

I've got Oban (12 year old), Dalwhinnie (15 year old) and Slyrs (3 year old, but damn its good - a Bavarian single malt) at the moment.  All good.  Which one I choose is dependant on my mood.

I like Knob Creek on the rocks... 10 years, smooth, and 100 proof. It will hurt you, because you don't think you're drinking something with fangs...

Just tried something called buffalo trace... Not a bad whiskey either.

I tried that "43", and it is surprisingly very, very, very good.

I still have a few bottles of Michter's Sour Mash http://www.ellenjaye.com/michters.htm from which I dole out a sip every once in a while.  Yes, I do use an eyedropper.

Also sitting in the liquor chest are some middling-good 20- & 25-year old single malts, mostly from Skye distillers.

I'm not a snob - most were received as presents from folks that are snobs.  The Michter's was picked up in a multti-case purchase when the rumors first started about the possibility of the distillery closing.  It was a sad trip, in that within a month the only retail outlets - Pennsylvania state liquor stores - stopped stocking the brand.

stay safe.

I have a freshly opened bottle of Jim Beam Black Label. I like it for the price. I like a glass of it with a drop of maple syrup.

Both from Kentucky, and both excellent choices.

Maker's mark and Wild Turkey 101 are both great too.

Can't handle Jim Beam. Had a bad experience with it when I was younger. I can smell a bottle of that stuff across the room as soon as it's open. I leave soon afterwards.

I've drank a bit of varied bourbons; single bbls and low end.  Surprisingly, Mattingly and Moore suits my taste.
It's sweet, smooth, aromatic and flavorful.   I like it neat.  Sometimes I make an Old Fashioned.  Put a stick of cinammon in it.

I'm partial to RedBreast Irish whiskey and Pyrat rum.  Both neat.

I don't drink much anymore, but I did like a Kentucky Burbon Whiskey called Old Heaven Hill. It's a nice 80 proof 8 year old whiskey at a reasonable price. I still give the stuff as a gift from time to time for whiskey drinkers and many really like it. It's smooth and has a hint of malty sweetness to it. It's good enough to drink on the rocks or straight up, but cheap enough so that you won't freak out if someone mixes up a whiskey and coke.

They also make a "Bottled in Bond" older 100 proof whiskey. I had it a few times and liked it, but I never felt the need to get loaded 20% faster.

Another if you want to be spendy. Pyrat Cask 23 rum. 40-year rums.

Yes. 40 year.

If rum is for pirates, this is a gentleman privateer. Amazing levels of complexity, and smooth as silk...

Good Lord Gehewr, J Weed is rock gut! LOL. I like Jack Daniels single barrel or Crown Royal on the rocks. I absolutely dispise Scotch and don't know how anyone can drink that crap.

Yup.  I know it is.  The Fighter Mafia introduced me to it some years ago.   =D

I was hoping somebody here would give it a try, just like how I got Grampster to try my all-time favorite RedBreast.  ;)

Ah, jeez, you had to go and mention whisky! (goes and pours a little)

I've been working on a bottle of Super Nikka.  Japanese, 86 proof.  I've never had anything else so smooth.

Speaking of Scotch...

In WEB Griffin's books, many of the characters (they're generally well-to-do) drink Famous Grouse. The local bottle shop carries it but the smallest they have is still spendy. I'd like to try it but really don't know if I want to discover that I really like it. A 750mL bottle is something like $18-20 locally (though it may have been a full liter, which makes it slightly more affordable).

I buy my Yukon in 1.75 liter bottles; "handles", as my son calls them. Base price - before final taxes - is $21.
