As was mentioned in a previous thread, anybody can claim to be with the Tea Party.

But if Amazon is getting a special exemption from a tax paid by others, I could see Tea Partyers objecting to that.

If I'm reading it right, the "special exemption" was to not have to collect SC sales taxes on items sold to residents of other states.

Why should I, as a citizen of Alaska, have to pay SC's sales tax just because the physical presence of the business is there?

I don't get any benefit from that money and my purchasing the item, particularly from a trans-shipper like Amazon, doesn't impact SC in any way not coverable by property and transportation taxes and such.

The TEA party is tired of the governor and legislature picking and choosing who gets favorable tax treatment.  To understand Amazon you have to understand the history of Boeing.  In the case of Boeing the legislature gave away the store and to this day don't have a good fix on what the cost is to the state. 

Enter Amazon's deal negotiated by the same cast of characters.  Between the two deals the TEA party rose to prominence in the state to the point of electing a governor who turns out to be a bull RINO but that is a different story. 

The TEA party types object to favorable treatment to big business enterprises yet gives the finger to small business which is responsible for more than 80% of the job creation in the state.  Our governor started off talking about tax changes to favor the little guy.  All the talk disappeared once she was elected.  TEA party is saying "enough, already".

There is a lot of political combat going on in the state between the RINO establishment and insurgent TEA party types.  Amazon is just a little smoke on the horizon.
