WW2 history buffs may like this rabbit hole
« on: November 23, 2013, 03:32:23 PM »
I started on one movie, moved to another, and so on.

This one I found very interesting, mainly because in 1933 my Father joined the Army and was assigned to the cavalry. I didn't see him though.  ;)

Ack!! In his memoirs, my grandpa mentions that some newsreel cameramen came by while they where in Rettel and were filming the mortor platoon fire on an empty pillbox. So, grandpa had his platoon pull out a few machine guns to help "take" the pillbox.

But I have no clue what to use as search if it even still exists. I tried his platoon.

Neat one here... http://www.armedpolitesociety.com/index.php?topic=42215.0

Shows sailors replenishing 14" powder and shells on a battleship. It appears to be a member of the New Mexico or Tennessee class.

Even neater... that's the USS Pennsylvania at 15:45.
