I use a Winsor and insist on it being perfect

Holy crap.  Do you also drive a Yugo and insist on it being fast?

I can tie a tie either way mirror or not. What I absolutely can’t do is tie one on someone else while looking at them face to face. Does..not..compute!!

I did it by muscle memory, like tying one's shoes, mirror or not.  I do check symmetry in a mirror or a car window anyhow.  I dislike seeing folks with crooked knots or improper lengths of the ends, but I don't dislike them personally on that account.

When he was little, one of my sons loved wearing a tie, but I had to tie it for him.  I could not do it from his front without calc'latin' every move and reversing it, so I just tied one with a large loop and had him put it on over his head.

Utterly refuse to wear one.

Preach.

When I absolutely do have to wear one, I use a zipper tie. Looks better than a clip on, but is way more comfortable and easier than a regular tie.

I do have one real tie. Even learned how to tie it. Unfortunately, in the process I found out that it's way too short.

I only use a mirror to check it.

Speaking of ties, why aren't there more tactical ties on the market that have a break-away feature? I don't wear one at work specifically because they are super dangerous to wear around machinery. I've thought about having my wife cut some at the right spot and sew on Velcro so you can tie it in the normal fashion but it would come apart with a good yank.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

This.  Police ties are clip on, but they are crap.  I'd like to have a quality zipper tie for work.

Pratt works, too, but if you loosen your tie the underside seam shows. Same if the tail isn't tucked or pinned.

Done properly a Windsor is symmetrical. Works better with thinner ties, though.

I know about 6-7 different ways to tie a tie.  Both with a mirror and without.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Yeah, I did that.  I dreaded the thought of it getting caught in machinery on the production floor.  A snip and a couple of "basting" stitches, as my wife called them, in the back did it.

Never needed a mirror.  Usually check in the mirror afterwards that it's centered but that's it.
